Alex McLeish

Good choice and he canny be any worse than Wee Chessney before him and a far better option than that Clown Caldwell can't even believe he put his name forward for the job.

Laughable, cheap unimaginative choice.

He's way more qualified and less laughable than Gareth Southgate for your lot, he really was the cheap option after 'where's the cash' Allardyce.;)

Southgate was the U'21 manager don't forget. The idea is that you have a progression through the system, all used to do things the same way. Quite a logical way of doing things and should hopefully help to integrate the very successful U'21 players into the senior team.

I'm not saying I am knocked out by Southgate but there is logic and a plan in the appointment.

OK with Big Eck. Got a mate who was at school with him in Barrhead. Eck was a wee lad but a good footballer. His dad told the rest of the boys to give Eck a hard time (kick him about a bit in games) to toughen him up. He toughened up - but remained a real nice guy.

Some beautiful football played by Celtic last night.
So many missed chances that they might regret in the second leg though.

Forrest, Macgregor and Tierney were top notch and with the recent form of Robertson at Liverpool we may be looking at a wee revival of Scotland's hopes.
IMO Forrest is the best player in the SPL so far this season.

Not sure, he was a good pro yes but a bit too nice and polite to be a tough manager imo. Not sure of the logic in his promotion either, how many U21 coaches take the senior job? U21s is often their natural level.
Clubwise Southgate was pretty inexperienced with just a mixed success spell with Middlesborough before England, wasn't he?

Can you really imagine Real/PSG/ManU/ManC/Barca looking to Southgate as a future boss? Former England bosses have been at that level - Robson, Venables, SvenGE, Capello etc.

Not saying McLeish is great but he's ok/steady, as good as anyone else we could hope to get and I still dont expect to qualify for anything of note anytime soon.

As I say, dreadful, unimaginative cheap option that stinks of panic. There is a reason McLeish has been out of football for so long. This is a man who jumped at the first opportunity and walked away from the Scotland scene the last time. McLeish even realised he had the SFA over a barrel. Managed to renegotiate a higher salary prior to finally signing after agreeing his contract.

Numerous better options out there.

No one is interested in the Scotland National managers job, when the likes of Michael O'Neil turns it down you've got a problem. For some reason everyone thought he was this great saviour but his managerial record isn't really that good, it's worse than Gordon Strachans and even with that sort of record he still knocked Scotland back despite the fact he stays in Edinburgh.

I sense this is personal. Is it because he was Gers boss for a while?

Leaving the Scotland job before maybe was a bit mercenary but if you get offered significantly more money in work would you not move on too? Or if you can negotiate your salary upwards not do it?

I'm maybe a little biased though as an Aberdeen fan of an age to watch when McLeish was a stalwart in defence his whole career for us in our best period ever as a club.:smirk:

No it's because he has a pee poor record and is floundering around for a job. Only the SFA are stupid enough to entertain him again.

Val, I'd rather take a chance on somebody like Jack Ross than give it back to McLeish.

The idiots at the SFA were prepared to pay £500k release clause to NI then they could quite easily have tempted somebody with a £500k signing on fee. Laughable SFA appointment.

Who is Jack Ross?

I worked in Glasgow for 18 months, from 1999. Lovely City, lovely people. Warm and welcoming even!

Any mention of "footba" and it quickly descended into an Old Firm dust up and previously rational folk turned into loonies! (much to the amusement from supporters of the other Teams.

Any manager if Scotland has his work cut out.

It's not footba it's fitba ;)

as someone from S of the border, I'd be inclined to say it doesn't matter who gets picked to be Scotland manager - you'll still have as much chance of winning anything as England do.... i.e. not very much
