Where prices to go up or down is seasonality and availability, as the number of spaces goes down and you get nearer your dates the price does rise. Booking well in advance is the way to get the best price.

It's not, I read it on the internetz. There is actually some truth in it, maybe not for the company you work for (I assume you saying its rubbish means you must work in the web dev team?) but it does happen, especially in the travel industry.

I worked (contracted) at HX years ago (2004-ish) and wrote their website-backend around the time Matt Pack was leader of the web team when it had about 5 people in it. I was also the foosball king there, just ask Stevo (SEO) and Damo (IT).

We stayed at the Europa hotel at Crawley. £116 for the five of us overnight before hand, parking for two weeks with enough CCTV cameras to stop a mouse walking across the car park without getting noticed and transfers to and from the airport.
Adequate hotel for the purpose with free WiFi and computer access to do the boarding passes etc.
