Had a flight booked with Iberia and they changed the times by 8 hours whci was inconvenient and they refunded the cost of the flights.

However they will not refund the administration/service charge fee which only amonted to Euros 17 but that it is not the point. have wriiten to them but they will not budge

Any thoughts please

The cost they incurred for which you pay the admin fee was still paid by them. So no, shouldn't be refunded.

no ? they entered into a contract by accepting payment for the flights . they wanted to change the terms of the contract , the new terms were unacceptable to the customer , hence the contract is terminated by mutual concent , why should the customer be out of pocket as it was the vendor that wanted to change contract ??

It's a fee to cover there incurred costs. Not for a service. I'm not basing this on any law as I'm not a consumer guru, but, you can't expect a refund on a service charge, IMO

I am in total despair about an airline and their charges.

I was 95% into a booking with Ryanair and ran into difficulties.

It's a long story, but I ended up going into work to phone them (b.t.w. it costs £90 per hour to phone Ryanair, and it IS work related). I waited 10 minutes to get through (so that's £15 :() and then they couldn't actually advise me.

The way I see it is they are wrong. As someone else has pointed out, you effectively entered into a contract which they can no longer fulfil. Complete refund it the only acceptable resolution.

you could very well be right mate , i see it as they failed to deliver on the origional contract , if the second or optional contract is not suitable then you shouldnt have to be out of pocket ..

i would expect no refund if it was the customer changed the contract

airlines( cheap ) are just a rip off for us golfers,a group of lads from the cricket club society went to ireland last year to stay at a small hotel and play 4 courses over 5 days after doing all the costings it worked out far cheaper doing the following, putting all the cases and clubs into one of the chaps transit van,he then got a special offer price to get the ferry to ireland and drive to the hotel, they got walk on tickets by plane and met him there they saved hundreds of pounds, same as if you book a golfing holiday and they then charge you extra for additional baggage!!!!!
