Sky are the biggest bunch of robbers on the planet!
I had Sky for several years and inquired about the broadband package one September. They informed me they could only give me a connect package as they hadn't been into my local exchange to install their equipment and it would cost me £17 a month but they would be in and have it done by January the following year so with the 3 months free I would only be paying £17 a month for one month then it would drop to £5 a month.
I could handle that so I signed up and to be fair it was a great BB package which ran faster than anyone else offered even BT.
After 4 YEARS on the connect package and many complaints my Sky TV started playing up so I called the helpline. Went through most of the people on the helpline over the next 3 months trying to get a decent reception until one said they would have to send out an engineer which would cost me £65. When your paying them the best part of £100 a month for a service that didn't work, wasn't what I had been promised and having as much help from them as an ice lolly in the arctic I decided enough was enough and said I wanted to cancel the package. They said OK with no offer of assistance in sorting the problem out, no engineer cost reduction and no apology for the service I had received.
About 5 months ago the arm that holds the LMB onto my Sky dish fell off revealing the cause of the problem which, as I had said all the time, was with their equipment.
I will never deal with Sky again.

When I came to try and negotiate with sky they didn't play ball at all. I was prepared to let it go though so I persisted and had them cancel it. They let me walk away, I was already out of contract and they did nothing to try and keep me. I then signed up a for anew account in my wife name using a friends staff discount code and literally got the same half price, less internet. For internet I got Tesco BB for £2 a month when taking their phone line. All phone lines are £14 a month.

So... I rang sky this morning, using the "considering switching to Virgin" bargaining position. I'd researched their joining offers prior so was armed with all the info. Kept the conversation direct and honest. Basically said I was trying to reduce my bill. Was on the phone for 36 long minutes going through it all. The result of which was SUCCESS.

I've retained all my channels, HD and multi rooms, plus my unlimited bb. My monthly bill will reduce from £105 to £84.50 for 12 months. Plus my package now includes "free" phone calls (01, 02, 03, 0800, 0845) and line rental. After 12 months my bill will go to £101 per month.

If you include the cost of the BT line rental and call savings, I am about £35ish per month better off for the 12 month period and will be about will still be £18ish per month better off afterwards. Even without the phone calls I think it's a decent deal.

So, all in all more than happy with the way the call went! Doubt I'll ever accept the "price" of something again after seeing the savings a phone call can make.

Actually, is a £45 and £28ish per month saving as I mistakenly presumed we had free calls with BT

And in 12 months, ring them and do it all again. Its all I do. I currently have free line rental until January (from last January). So will ring in the new year, have a little cry, tell them i'm poor and see what they can do to assist.
