Hi
My opponent yesterday had a shot over trees and across a lake. He's ball hit the trees and disappeared. He claims he saw the ball get through the trees, so therefore, must be in the lake. Neither of us saw the ball enter the lake. He walked to the drop zone and played another ball. i think he should have dropped a ball at the original spot short of the trees. Any thoughts please

By the sounds of it, the only way you could have any certainty that the ball is in the lake is if you see a splash.
Too many other places the ball can be to be able to claim with virtual certainty - and that's what you need to have - that the ball is in the water.
So replay with stroke and distance penalty
And welcome to the forum!

He should have played stroke and distance if no one saw the ball enter the hazard. There must be virtual certainty that the ball is in the hazard and the circumstances you describe mean that there is a chance it isn't.
