Admitting Defeat, The Old Irons and Back in the Bag Full Time

I so wanted to get on with my Cleveland CG16s, nice looking irons, not a large headed as my old irons and the sweet shots were great. Not sure what it was but after 6 months they never really clicked with me. Put my Cobra SZs back in the bag and some of my consistancy has returned and my confidence with my irons has increased no end.

So, frustrating that I wasted cash on the Clevelands (lucky they were a bit of a steal), frustrated that I have to admit that I really do need the help of a big cavity and get the feeling that a set of Pings or Callaways may be on the horizon if I feel the need to change again. The sleeker Mizunos may just have to wait.

Is this me giving up to easily or being sensible in that I gave it until the beginning of the season to show some form with the new irons but made the change before I did any damage to my handicap.

Nothing to be ashamed of playing big cavity backs GB........Im sure that if more of us me included kicked our ego and our pride aside then we would reap the benefits that those types of clubs promote....Hell there are even tour players playing Ping G20 irons!

Iv hit most different types of clubs except pure blades which i definitely have no business playing and to be honest its hard for me to tell the difference.....
Iv hit Pings G20's and their i15 and i currently play the i10's.......To be honest the G20's felt really good......The only thing im a bit cagey of is how the big sole reacts to bare lies or off hard pan.......I have a fairly steep swing and take a generous divot and i found them lovely in normal conditions but im not sure how they would be in the height of summer....

I have no issue either with getting so called players cavity backs airborne and iron play is probably one of the stronger parts of my game....What the big Pings did do was shrink the shape of my shot to a more straight flight rather than the fade i play with which i suppose on the flip side is a very good thing.....

I would like to try them for 6 months or so through reall play and see would they really make a difference to my game.

Whatever. It's a stupid game that we play for fun use whatever makes you happy I like blades so I use them others can't/won't use them so don't!

A very wise move imo GB,why make the game any harder than it already is ?
I am on the verge of changing my irons for this very reason.

Remember, its how many, not how. Did something similar myself recently, went from MP-57 back to MX-300. And have hit a lot more good shots as a result. Its just a question of coldly appraising where your game is at, and where it is going.

That was my intention but something did not feel quite right over the first few outings with the Clevelands as so I held on to the old ones. It may be the Nippon Shafts in the Cobras. My last 2 sets have had these fitted but Cleveland only offer them with their tour heads so I went for the recommended alternative.

I think you have done the right thing mate , I had a set of nike clubs really liked the look of them but for some reason I could not hit them very well. Now have gone to the clubs in my sig, the big cavity has given me a lot more confidence and I am hitting them more consistently. I think the good looking clubs will have to wait mate. I went from my TM TP's to the R11's and haven't looked back in terms of ball striking. I just hit the R11's so much better even though I could get the TP's around. I've still got them and may go back to them if and when I improve (or trade them in for another set of better player clubs). Shame about the CG16. Tried them at FoA and liked them - but loved the Tour version

Thing is, I never learn. Now looking on line at bargain Cobras, Callaways and even Wilson Staff irons. My AG vouchers and a bit of Trade In/Ebay/Sale on here with the Clevelands may see new shinies in the bag again.
