My putting woes continues last night (4, 4, 3, 4) on the first four holes. I shot 110 in total, but a half decent putting ability it would have been 90.

Towards the end of the round my partner suggested I tried his Oddesy 2 ball. And low and behold two consecutive 12 footers one in, one 3" away.

Buying a new putter is not an option. having a lesson is and as soon as it is possible I will be doing so.

Could my putter be made heavier? Is that something a pro could do?

All my putts at the minute are way too short, the answer is probably hit it harder, but I'm struggling"""

Noooooooooo. I mean yes, a pro could add weight as could you. You can buy rolls of sticky backed lead tape and experiment yourself.
But nooooooo, dont hit them harder, just swing the putter back a bit further. Others have said make the backswing and through swing the same length...I always make the follow through longer than the backswing and whatever you do, dont take a long backswing then hit it harder as you'll end up in the pond at the far side of the green :(

I thought I'd seen something like that on sale. Think I'd prefer to do it with the help of a pro, rather than fiddle myself

Cheers Bob, my usual putting experience is way too short, way too short. Get annoyed. Waaaaay too long then even shorter than before!!!

Hey Spoff

There are a couple of nearly new Odyssey 2 ball putters on ebay with a couple of hours to go currently at £40.

May be worth a look

Did have a nosey, Fragger - but hoping it is me rather than the stick.

Putting is the only thing I have not had a lesson on, and is by far the worst aspect of my game...

I'd agree with Homer, if you had 3 x 4 putts then it isn't the weight of the putter that's the problem. It sounds to me like you are decelerating through impact but I could be wrong.

Dont take this the wrong way but if you are four putting that often you can do what you want to your putter it isnt going to help.
IMO the problems are all in your head if I were you I would have a couple of practise rounds without a putter in my bag, use the blade of your SW on the greens just try and get a feel for using the blade and the roll of the ball it will stop you hitting and hopefully get you strokeing

Craphacker :D

Freddie - I *think* it is in my head - after I used the other putter I think I putted a tad better with my own. Need to get out again ASAP (hard as it is school hols now) and get a lesson.

Hawkeye - them three four putts were on the first four holes - there were a fair few more!!!

Bob's tip about having a longer follow-through than back stroke is a great one - as usual!

I was leaving things a little bit short and tried that tip out on the putting green yesterday afternoon. Bingo! Problem sorted.

Cheque's in the post, Bob! ;)

I'm sure bobmac will correct me but you have to feel like the ball is just getting in the way of the stroke and that you are not actually trying to hit it. A consistent tempo back and through is required, the ball just happens to get in the way :)

If you can keep a consistant rhythym in your putting stroke you only have to vary the length of the swing to change how far it goes.
The problem is lots of golfers flick the wrists, therefor giving it a bit of a hit at the bottom with the right hand. They also move their hips getting a slight turn in the body so to stop the ball going left, their arms move away from the body.
I agree with those who say putting is a "feel thing" but you must have a decent technique to make a consistent stroke.

If you are slowing down into impact, place a second ball behind your first ball about 8in and try and putt without hitting the back ball. This will help you with the feel of a gentle acceleration through the ball and the ball just getting in the way as has been mentioned before.

HTH :)

Right, off to pack for Forest Pines :D :D :D
