A&E

Unfortunately not. Still too many people going who are not emergencies, filling the same rooms, beds, corridors etc. I know it is more complicated then just this, bed blocking elsewhere in the hospital is a big issue for example but a bit like cycling you have to tackle everything no matter how small and this leads to improvements over time.
Who decides what a genuine emergency is? Loads of adverts/media campaigns for allsorts of issue advise you to seek medical attention asap, agree something needs to be done but sometimes it's better to be safe than sorry.
Personally I'd rather see some sort of payment system for those who go to A&E for stupidity ie, drunkeness rather than a parent/parent who panics and over reacts that gets vilified.

Sadly whilst GPs are quoting 2 to 3 weeks for an appointment, people are going to head for a and e as the only place for instant medical attention.

Some hospitals that have lost their A &E (High Wycombe ) have a minor injuries unit instead which can treat anything Upto a simple break.
Basically it is a drop in Out of hours doc service, but avoids quite a few people having to make the 15 mike trip to stoke mandeville . To the main A &E

At my hospital A&E is linked with the walk in clinic. The walk in nurse comes 1st, and she either sits you down for waiting for a GP in the health centre or she gives you a note and you are allowed to the A&E desk. Once there, it's a matter of minutes. I guess this cuts down the people actually reaching A&E by a lot.

Having been on the A&E site once, there were cubicles available and I got accelerated access to scans.

larmen, that is what I was trying to get at. Good to hear it is working.

We have a brand new stand alone Uber A and E in Cramlington that is very much emergency only. Anything less than that and you go to one of the standard hospitals in the area. The new site will redirect you if you are not a big enough emergency. Signs are everywhere describing the level of problem you need to have to stay there. Seems to be working so far.

Sems to me that this is pretty much what actually happens!

So I was right then! Even if my typing/spelling wasn't up to scratch!

It's certainly the way my local A&E (apparently) work!

Foxholer, you were and I did not mean to doubt that. I guess my point is that it needs to be well enforced and in many circumstances it is not done well enough. Before our Uber hospital came along it certainly was not in my local hospital in the experiences that I and others I know who used it found.

If you walk in then you go through the Triage system, if you are brought in by ambulance you bypass that and go straight into the corridor.

I suspect your customer satisfaction survey made for interesting reading?

The question that always puzzles/amuses me is...

'Would you recommend this facility to family/friends?'

Yeh, get ill and check into this place it's a must!!!

Need to take The Boy to see a Doc later...
Can't get to surgery before 11 for various reasons. The GP can only book appointments on the day in order....was offered 9.20 - can't get there. But they can't book me 11.20 which I can get to as there are appointments before that that must be filled first.......
Is it any wonder people go to A&E....

A major town such as HW need an A+E. How the heck (pc'd) has this been allowed to happen??????

Exactly; mine specialises in giving all the elderly retired people the morning or evening appointments so their free time isn't messed up, leaving the appointments in the middle of the day for those at work, usually some distance from the surgery.

I cannot fault the service I've received from my GP when I see him, the issue is getting past the receptionists to see him.
