A Bit Scunnered

I think I'm maybe just not quite comfortable with the "new" swing. So I can go on a wee run of pars and throw in a birdie or two but can have a howler of a hole and follow it up with a run of bogeys. For example I was one under par on the eighth tee, which to my mind sees me through the hardest part of the course but took double bogey on the eighth, bogey on nine which is an easy par 4 and then played the back nine like an idiot and only just broke 80. I suspect once I hit a couple of bad shots I start over thinking it.

Would love to go to Machrihanish but am already committed elsewhere that weekend!

1 under, wont be playing you for money lol

Maybe you relaxed too much after the 8th? Feeling its easy from there on in?

Maybe, but I think I actually got annoyed that I'd let such a great start slip and then it got worse....

Played 18 today and saw enough to encourage me that it's slowly coming together. I ended up with a five over par 74. Could have been better but I was pleased that the round didn't unravel when it threatened to do so (bogey/bogey/double at 4,5,6 to go from 2 under to 2 over par).

Pretty scrappy round, in truth, but scrambled well to save a few pars.

what i found when i made the move into single figures was just a change of attitude in my own game, i would hit a bad shot and get me into trouble and i would instantly try and fix it in one go, choosing silly clubs out of heavy rough etc and ending up doubling. now its get the ball to within a 100 yards at worst, have a pitch and never generally more than a 10-12 footer to save par. thats the single bigget change in my game that got me down to single figures.

Yeah, makes sense, and I'm starting to develop that sort of mindset; the bad shot's gone so what's the best play from where I am now to have a chance at par but no worse than bogey? The other one is thinking about when to attack the pin and when to go for safely on the green.
