I had a great weekend - I managed to get a round in at Coombe Hill as a guest of a member there (long story) but ended up playing as a single.

It's a fantastic course and I had a brilliant day...except one thing. My round took 5:05hrs...and I was playing on my own!

The group in front of me weren't slow particularly; but in front of them were two groups of well-known members who had all the gear and no idea. One three occasions they refused to let us play through, even when we asked at the halfway hut!

It wasn't too much of a problem fortunately - there was no-one behind me so I just played a few balls each hole for practice, but it was actually getting dark by the time I finished (and I started at 12:45pm). But seriously - if a club has known members that are really that slow, shouldn't it do something about them?

Coombe Hill was lovely though - amazing practice facilities, really well looked-after course and generally a top day out. I even got my first ever birdie so am well happy!

I know it wasn't 'your' course but did you say anything to the club after the round?

I know no-one likes a grass but like you say, if someone is notorious they should be monitered.

When I played at celtic manor on the roman road course, the marshalls kept an eye on each groups progress. 2 groups in front of us were real slow and were told to hurry up or get off.

Shame not all courses have marshalls!

Congrats on the birdie. I'm still waiting on my first one since I started playing in September.(Had a few years ago as a junior) On Sunday I missed a birdie chance by about an inch. Perfectly on line just didn't hit it. At least even I couldn't miss the par putt.

Sadly I didn't say anything because it was a bit of an odd situation; I was basically given a free round as I was hosting a pub quiz for the members that evening (running pub quizzes is a part-time job of mine you see) and I thought it might be rude to grass them up!

There were a total joke though. Put it this way; on one of the holes I spent 15 minutes practising my chipping onto the green (after I'd completed the hole) just waiting for the group in front to be able to tee off. We joined up in the end because otherwise it would have been dark!

Such a shame they were like that mate.

Played the Derby course at the Belfry yesterday which was pretty busy. We almost got a hole behind the group in front, and although the group behind wern't waiting ages, they did get to a point where we thought, we better hurry up. We ended up pulling a hole clear of them.

I just don't understand how people arn't aware!

Happend to me a couple of weeks ago - found out the delays were due to a pro taking a class (6 of them) Under 10's around the course...........On a Saturday afternoon! Its not a decent course, however was in the area with a couple of hours to kill - However cmon, you dont host an under 10's practice round at peak times when its sunny!

Managed to play Hassocks front 9 in 1 hour 25 mins on Friday night... allbeit I ran the last two holes as tee'd off at 17:20!

HaHa, I can see it now, Question 1 - How long is a reasonable time to play a round of golf, 2 hours, 3 hours or 4 hours?

You missed a trick there fella :D

Played oaks part in Wallington, 5:45 as a two ball in a buggy because the 4 infront refused to let us through even though the marshal told them to on the 2nd and the 10th/11th. I will never play that place again as these were members and the marshal did feck all about it
