A £10.00 prize.....

I am sitting in my office about 18 miles from Princes and the rain is slashing down and the wind howling through the trees.

I am seriously sorry for you Smiffy as this should have been a great day out for you, and it's probably gone the way of todays Ryder Cup

Chris

Bloody hell.....what can I say????
Sorry I didn't post last night but we stayed on at the club and watched the end of the Ryder Cup debacle so I didn't get home until late.......
But when Robert Rock plays a par 5 and nails Driver, 3 wood, 3 wood and still comes up short, you know you've been through the mill....
I know that all you links golf players up North are going to say "you've got to have a bit of wind to make links the game it is" but really, this was savage.
At some points on the back 9 especially, it was a job just to stand up. Any chance of a nice smooth swing went out of the window and despite playing a few holes well, getting a couple of good drives away and some reasonable chipping, it was awful.
The holes were bad enough to play downwind, with it being impossible to hold any greens, but into the wind it was just a lottery to be honest.
To be fair, it wasn't the rain. We didn't really get any of that until we started the back 9 and then, at first, it was only very light. Started to get a little heavier towards the end of the round but it wasn't as bad as it could have been and was manageable.
Robert Rock was good company, as were my two playing partners. We didn't feature in the prizes, and a seperate competition saw a young lad off single figures win a Stableford with 28 points! I think Robert Rock shot a 77 in the pro's comp, which in those conditions was pretty good going. Highlight of the day (for me) was when our host won the ladies long driving competition. Well done, Sandy!!
So a good day, in great company but one that has completely knackered me out.
Oh and by the way, our other team member may be along later on to tell you how he outdrove Robert Rock on three holes!
;) ;) ;)

It wasn't just 3 holes, it was 3 holes in a row!

.... so I heard :p

You should have been there James. It was a pleasure to watch. This team mate started off really scruffy. I felt for him. Duck Hook city. But he came good in the end.

Oh. And btw Smiffy..

Thanks for NOT inviting me. Did me a real favour there.

I'll return the favour someday

:p :p

You would have hated it Roger.
Playing with a pro, and an ex pro lady golfer, unlimited coffee and bacon rolls, two course evening meal with Robert Rock offering to buy you drinks.
It was horrible.

You didn't actually have a half of shandy with him then, did you?

What, my old mate Robert???
I got him a large white wine, he came back at me with a pint of 1664.
Spent the rest of the afternoon chatting to him in the bar, watching the Ryder cup on the telly and discussing grips/set ups/putting etc.
I gave him a few pointers
