I’m looking for nice 9 hole courses maybe 1 hour distance from Glasgow. My boys wanting to play new courses but 18 holes would be too long for him still.
I was going to take him down to turnberrys 9 holes in the next week or two and would like to take him to a few more nice places to keep him interested over the winter months.
So looking for recommendations please ?

Sorry I can’t help you as I live in Sth Manchester but I like your reasoning. It can be a long slog 18 holes , especially when you are just learning and possible inclement weather. Par 3 courses are good for beginners. Sharpens up the short game

Most 18 hole courses will have a cost for 9 and depending on how busy, you could do two different courses, the front one day and back another.

Strathendrick is supposedly a nice 9 holer, not too far from Glasgow. Also a nine holer in Bonnybridge I believe.

If you're wanting a cheap one. Greenock has a second course which is a nine hole.
It's good for kids and I used to take my son on it when I was a member but it's short of you want half a normal course.
If you want a shorter course but a full 18 holes Fullerton down at Troon might work.

I honestly think golf would be a nine hole game if we invented it.
Not saying that it would be better, mind you; it would just be more American.

Two hours or so is much more representative of a typical recreational activity.
9 innings is the length of a baseball game.

We didn't invent the game, however, so I'd rather have it in line with the rest of the golf world
than have it be different. We do have nine hole courses, but they tend to be a little scruffy.

Liam from Golf Mates has said that there are some nice ones in Ireland, No. Ireland, and Scotland.
I never heard him mention England or Wales as far as nine hole courses go.

2 hours is about right for young folks to get round a typical British 18 holes.
9 holes is too short for many though good for children and the elderly.

I called turnberry this morning to book the 9 hole Arran course apparently it’s only for members and hotel guests. I have played the two 18 hole course but I stayed in the hotel, are the main courses the same ? Members and hotel guests only ?
I see the carrick has a 9 hole course anyone played it ? I played there main course last year and it was quite boggy

There is a 9 hole muni course at Maybole.
It is pretty hilly so just might put a youngster off.

Troon Fullarton might be a good call, a shortish flat 18 holer that plays well during the winter months

Kingsfield at Linlithgow looks pretty nice (Seen it, never played it) and gets decent reviews. 45 minutes away. (depending on where in Glasgow)

9 hole's at Polkemmet, just beside the M8 but probably wouldn't be classified as 'nice'

I played Polkemmet a lot when it first opened back in the 1980s. It was a great wee course with some really good holes, but don’t know what it’s like now. Run by the local council so might be suffering from lack of investment.

Haven't played it but take the kids to the area every so often and it looks ok.

Not sure of the quality of the greens/drainage etc but it looks decent for £13/£11 (Adult/Kids)

Deaconsbank (now Rouken Glen I think) on the Southside is a short 18holer and where I started played with my mates when I was 12/13 and learning the game. Haven’t been by it for a couple of years but I’m thinking it’s still there and will be the same length.

Drove up to Comrie yesterday for there 9 hole course. My boy had a day off school yesterday and course was very quiet. Only seen one other two ball. Nice layout great condition highly recommend very fun course. Planning on playing Innerleithen next.
