Can anyone tell me the equivalent iron to a seven wood, as I find woods easier to hit than long irons.
Thanking you in anticipation

Hi mate when I started playing I used a 9,7,5,3 and Driver

A 7 wood will hit he ball about10-20 yards shorter than your 5 wood. Cant really give a distance because every one is different.

I use to hit my 7 wood about 180-190 yards but was not consistent with it, swapped it for my rescue club about 4 months ago and cant see myself going back.

I can't see a purpose for a 7 wood.

The next club distance wise after my 5W is my 3-iron replacement utility, there is no distance gap there.

If you are seeking to replace long irons go for utility clubs, there are many available and they all do the same job, I strongly advise ditching the idea of getting a 7 wood.

I cannot remember the last time I even saw a 7 wood!

Oh dear. I use a 7 wood, I'm neither old or a lady.
Bit weird mind.
Seriously I love mine to bits.
It gives me a totally reliable straight(ish) 175 / 185 yards, and is easier for me to hit than 5 / 4 iron.

Dont worry Slaigty mate use what works for you. Ignore what the others say and just kick their Ase's out on the course.

A 7 wood has 21 degrees of loft (give or take) and will go a bit further than a 21 degree "3" Hybrid, because of the shaft length. Depending on your swing it'll go the distance of a 2 or 3 iron.
Anyone wanting to take the p*** out of 7 woods (not that I have one) ought to consider that thousands of players are using hybrids to replace long irons, don't see what the difference is....

htl is bang on b.t.w. should be between 185-195 for average swing speed.

Apologies to you low handicappers who can cream a 2 or 3 iron from tee, fairway or light/medium rough, but for me the 7 wood is the best club in the bag as it can do the same jobs but a lot easier. It is far less likely to be snagged in the grass, the loft helps keep it straight(er) and you can attack the green from 175-200 yds out knowing that in most cases if you hit the green the ball should stop fairly quickly due to the higher flight.

But that's only how it works for me.

Recently bought a 24 deg hybrid replacing the 4 iron but still find the 7 wood easier to use.

A 7 wood is a very useful club, especially out of the rough. Surprisingly, most players can hit them well off the tee, even though the face is about the same size as a 5 iron, but I'd love to hit one 195 yards, I think the best I could do with one is about 160 yards. You can also get a 9 wood these days, although I have never seen one in action.

Thank you Gentlemen and birdieman {wishful thinkimg perhaps!!!!} for your comments.
I have just purchased a set of 1,3,5,7 woods made by Yonex so I hope they will improve my game.
May I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a strait hitting New Year.

I have a very good Callaway one, I bought it from the range when I started up again, it's a really solid club for lay-ups (a bit like the second shots at the 1st/3rd/15th I played yesterday). It's like a big headed 4 1/2 iron and better out of the fluffy stuff too. I'm not using it anymore (since I got the dreaded utility that I couldn't hit straight yesterday). I'll bring it next time for you to try, oh and I forgot to give you the tees to try! sorry.

I like your post name. You must be as keen as MUSTARD. Sorry about that one but it is Xmas and I'm desperately trying to get another prize from GM....possibly for the crappiest pun. I've raised my glass a few times today and it probably shows.
