60p for a 1st class stamp...

i let the mrs deal with the posting. Mrs spent £7 posting out wedding invites off 2nd class and there wasnt many just the ones up county to a few of the family.

ut i agree with imurg cards are a chuffin rip off. I tend to go asda or the card factory as clinton cards is crazy money

It's sheet greed that will kill royal mail....

E cards and e-invoicing will kill general postage and with many overnight couriers offering a better service at less money parcelforce is seeing big slumps also.

They're pricing themselves out of the equation

If the service was half decent then perhaps you could begrudgingly accept it. When the service is total crap and you are being asked for more cash and no promise of any improvement to said crap service it smack of pocket lining and market positioning. Scandalous

First class stamp @ 60p represents a price hike of 30%...

So I am guessing all their other pricing is going up a similiar amount...

Goodness knows how much airmail is gonna be...

Second class is capped so cannot increase for a few years. I post mailshots regularly to members of a car club I am a member of. I always use second class post and most items arrive the next day or at latest the day after.

I thought 2nd class was going up to 50p?

Best investment rates you could get at the moment! Buy enough books to last until....the Royal Mail goes pop?!

I don't think it is too bad when you consider the amount of hands a letter goes through before it's destination, they all want a good wage also the cost of land transportation is going through the roof with the cost of fuel and road tax always going up. If you had to deliver the letter yourself from lands end to John O Groats how much would it cost you? I think we have to be realistic. 60p isn't to bad. BTW I do not work for royal mail.

I post plenty of stuff to Head Office every month. 1 item lost in 12 years. A great, speedy, service that's been taken for granted for too long.

I guess it's all down to the number of letters they now process. Back in the day they'd have processed many millions of letters. Now, with e-mail, fax, etc I bet that number's dropped massively.
So, back in the day, they could charge 20p as they were delivering so many. Now, because they only deliver a small amount of letters then the charge per letter will be higher.
I don't know about you but all the postperson seems to deliver to my house is advertising leaflets. We get VERY few letters.

Thank Gates for email ;)

£500+ for a computer and then £20 a month on broadband? e-mails aren't free. I don't see why someone would really have an issue about paying 60p for a letter to be picked up by hand, sorted and delivered 500 miles away by hand. 60p is a bargain in my opinion.

Then again I work for Post Office (not Royal Mail). I get where people are coming from with ther prices but it's still cheaper than buying a chocolate bar or a bottle of mineral water.

i do work for royal mail :) 60p is not bad for a good service don't care what anyone says lol

don't see people moaning about how much change you get from a tenner for a 20 pack or a pint etc.

when was the last time you bought something half decent for 60p?

Yes, on the whole Royal Mail provide a largely reliable service... Even though I do happen to have a lost item claim in place with them at present :(...

However if I [or anyone else for that matter] put in for a 30% pay rise I'd be promptly told I was a) having a laugh or b) a gobblin' git...

So whats the difference...

PS I am currently earning well below the national average so any pay rise would be good!

This sums up the Royal Mail for me:

I still get mail (normally mailshots) addressed to the previous owner of our house. I always write "NOT KNOWN AT THIS ADDRESS" in thick, black pen and pop the letter back in the post box.
I did this on Thursday with a mail shot from TalkTalk.

The post man re-delivered it today! :smirk:

It's in the bin now.
