$50,000 putt that was never holed

Whole host of Rules of Golf issues on this one - but we don't know the rules pertaining to this competition. If the organisers accepted that it was holed, then that's the end of it.

Can't watch the video as youtube blocked at work, but what is the rule if you chip from off the green and it's half in the hole, half propped against the flagstick?

I always thought you could just pick it up there and then, count it as 'holed', but I played with a guy the other day who took about 45 seconds to take the flagstick out, making sure the ball fell against the bottom of the hole.

Conversely, I once left the flag out whilst chipping, overhit it, but fortunately it 'slam dunked' into the holed, but then bounced out again, coming to rest about a foot from the cup - that doesn't count as 'holed' does it?

Many thanks in advance

But the rules of golf don't say it isn't holed if you leave the stick in and putt, just a shot penalty. Therefore, if the comp was to hole the putt, he did, regardless of whether the stick was in or out.

The ball does have to hit (and stay in) the bottom of the hole though, so he would have to remove the stick top get the ball to drop.

Dipstick!!! :) :D

If I'd done that, I'd be up there pulling up the flag to see if it really was "in". I'd not have picked it up....no way.

Me thinks (99%) it would have dropped.

Then again, it's an illegal (penalty) putt anyway.....but I'm sure the rules don't extend to this if it was a one-shot chance organised by the event organisers??

Didn't really pay much attention to what the guy was wearing when he hit the putt, and was watching on mute.

I thought the first guy who walked up was the winner of the $50,000, and thought he was a bit noncholant!!!

I always used to think that the ball had to stay in the hole while you removed the flag but all the viseos I've seen of pro's making hole-in-ones always show them picking the ball out without removing the flag.

The ball just has to drop below ground level to be holed I think. You dont have to remove the flag if the balls in the hole but if its laid up against it half in and half out , then you have to jiggle the flag carefully to get it to drop in.
