That was the score that won our opening mixed greensome today, not by me and my partner I hasten to add.

We didn't play that badly, my driving was as good as it was at Bolton on friday, my partner hit some good approaches, but most slightly off line, we were let down by our failure to get up and down from close to the green and ended up with 33 points. Even if we had got up and down every time we would have probably not got 47 points which was an unreal score.

47 playing as a single is incredible, 47 playing as a 4BBB would be pretty good too, but playing MIXED Greensomes is just ridiculous scoring !!

sorry - don't agree.

the relative strengths and weaknesses, together with the opportunity for the ladies tee/drive positions on longer holes to be a major factor - all add up to the possibility of large scores.

add in that no-ones even asked which course, tees and what card was played from; again I can think of courses where 47 would probably represent a pair playing to handicap! (men off yellows, all played to ladies card which is a higher par giving a base differential of 5 between par and SSS etc

the long way of saying that it doesn't strike me as necessarily extreme!

48 was scored at my old home club for the easter open off the back sticks in a gale in o degrees. the guy played off 24. hes 13, a complete bandit in my eyes. he was nearly level par for the front 9. i hacked it around that day. it was tought going. he couldnt win the comp in the end as he was only a junior.

i suspect this is why juniors arnt allowed in mens comps. he must be a cracking wee golfer but to knowingly play off 24 and shoot a score like that is outrageous.

icing on the cake. 48 points plus two blanks

Men off whites, played to men's card, he off 24, she off 30. so two shots on alf the holes. They to still played better than gross bogeys.

Often its not playing in enough competitions that is to blame, juniors SHOULD be encouraged to play in competitions for this very reason!

There is a junior at our place whos about 12 - 13, played in the medal comp this weekend. Think he had a nett 67, 5 under par of 16. The annoying thing was him and his friend messing around on the practice green when I was trying to practice my chipping.

i would have no problem with a junior playing in a mens comp as long as he had a true handicap. whoever runs the juniors section at my old club should have noticed that this wee man was no way a 24 handicap.

Agree with this even before you get into the old 'what is SSS relative to par' discussion.

You get a choice as to which tee-shot to use so you would automatically expect scoring to err on the better side especially in mixed events where the different tees can have a big impact on the length/ease of the subsequent approach...
