Used my early Christmas present for the first time today. I've not even used it on a range, but straight out onto the track with it.

Basically I'd bought 5 to PW in the MX300's, but realised that I might have made a mistake not getting the 4 iron. So I found one for £30, and grabbed it.

Used it instead of a wood / driver on holes that require woods.

I didn't lose a single ball, good distance and in the middle of the fairway. Scored better than I had in recent rounds, 31 points, despite 5 no scores.

I struggle with hybrids, and the 4 iron has given me a bit more confidence, even at 23 degrees, it's not difficult to hit well.

Just don't ask about the 5 blobs!!! Wedges and thick wet ground!

That is some scoring with so many no-score holes. I have no issues hitting a 4 iron and it certainly doesn't fill me with dread pulling it from the bag. £30 seems a bargain too. Why do you struggle so much with hybrids

Was so windy on thursday I dredged the 2-iron out, forgotten how useful a club it can be and struck it amazingly well considering not used a 2 or 3 for a long while, the different trajectory a huge advantage in the strong winds.

I'm one of the 'strange' people that have always used long irons, my 3 & 4 irons are always used, and I just can't stand the look of hybrids behind the ball, so never gone down that route.
He'll, I've even put the 2iron back in the bag recently !

Personaly, I think too many people cop out of using long irons too easily, instead of mastering them, which undoubtably impacts on your overall ball striking with all of the others too.

IMO of course.......

My 4 Iron is my goto club. I regularly out drive people using drivers with it. I wish I had a 2&3 iron, but the OCD in me wont let me buy odd matching irons.

Did they make a X20 2/3 iron? *goes off to search ebay*

Wedges and thick wet ground!

Horrible combination if the wedge is 60 degrees with very low bounce.

Took my lob wedge out of the bag today and put the 3 iron back in.

Only used it once. Thinned it into a tree

Lump if u wanted an older version Callaway 3 iron ive got one somewhere, its either a X14 or X16 pro I think, can try and dig it out if interested (depending on how strict the OCD is)

Pity. I have an X-18 3 iron in the shed....but if you're outdriving me with a 4 iron, I expect the shaft will be hopeless.

I love my three iron, I love trying (operative word) to drill it down the fairway on tight par 4s off the tee.

Good for you. You'd be surprised (well, maybe not, given it's me) that my 4 iron comes out a lot. I use it twice on some long holes.....I even used it 3 times in a row on a par 5 at Hawkstone Park......for tap in (almost) birdie. :D

It's simple to me now. Driver, oob, three off the tee, but occasionally get 250 to somewhere I can find the ball. Or iron into the fairway at 200 yards.

No brainer really.

Mind you. I felt like a rank beginner on the green today. The putting stats were okay. But the putting stroke was dire. How on earth did I score what I did???

Exactly why i havent used my driver in the last few months....3 and 5 Wood are far more accurate and every bit as long as some with there driver.....
