4 irons. Don't be afraid!

I have to admit i was very sceptical about Hybrids.

I love hitting my 4 Iron but then its 22 degrees of loft....Off the tee im pretty good with it at times....More so than the Hybrid..
But lately iv got some help with things from JustOne (thanks again James) ;)
and to be fair things are looking up...Iv been hitting the Hybrid very well probably the best since iv bought it...

i love my 4 iron and my 3 to be honest, use them a lot off the tee at my course, dont know what id do without them, prefer them to the tm 4 hybrid i had that got way too much height.

I started golf hitting a 3 iron off the tee and later a 2 iron. I still prefer to keep my 4 iron in the bag. I have 1 and 3 hybrids but use the 3 iron when the rough is low. I agree that the hybrids are great out of rough but into the wind, the extra height loses distance - then I want my long irons.

My 4 Iron is my goto club. I regularly out drive people using drivers with it. I wish I had a 2&3 iron, but the OCD in me wont let me buy odd matching irons.

Did they make a X20 2/3 iron? *goes off to search ebay*

They certainly made an X20 Tour 3-iron, I've got one, although I'll be honest it didn't come with the rest of my set, I bought it off a bloke selling a full set on AVForums. Same shaft as mine but this bloke is well over 6 foot, so it's had 1/2" added and the lie is slightly different. I don't find it makes much difference when hitting it off the tee though and I've even hit some decent shots off the fairway with it, assuming I'm swinging well enough of course. I'm much happier with that in my hands than my sole hybrid club.

Yeah, I had a look on callaways site, they made 2&3 Irons X20's. They seem to be rocking horse poo though unless bought in a set.

Found a callaway prototype 2 iron though :)

love my 4-iron, when it works it's a thing of beauty, so much so I'm now working on the 3-iron. I can hit it high or low - seems to be just a matter of a few inches in ball position - and even shape it a little; oddly it's about the only club I can do that with.

I too struggle with hybrids and fairways - I can hit them, and hit them a decent distance; just not reliably. I think it's a head game, put one behind a ball and I'm never sure how to hit it

I like my 4 iron and wouldn't swap for a 4h. Hitting a good one off a nice lie is a great feeling. I have a 3h (steel shaft) which I use in winter but I don't feel as in control with the hybrid as with the 4 iron, especially hitting into a par 3.

Also handy when you need to bunt it out of the trees under some branches (so I'm told :D )

I would rather hit my 4 iron than a hybrid any day. My track is normally quite windy and I much prefer the flight of a 4 iron to a hybrid.

I had to laugh when I saw this post. When I started to take golf seriously me and a mate had real issues with hitting a 4-iron. To be honest , we had issues hitting all clubs but especially the 4-iron. It got so bad we started nicknaming it "Macbeth" the club who's name you shall not speak. We even used to joke that if we hit another club badly, we must have touched the macbeth while taking the other club out of the bag.

Now it's the longest iron I carry and I love it. I have no issue with my 3-iron either but I get more height and control with a hybrid so I don't carry it.

I've had to learn to love it as some of our par 3's call for it off the tee. It also comes into play on some of the longer par 4's where there is an outside chance of hitting the green and maybe making a par for muchos points. Having used blades in the good old days when Bob had hair and v-easy was a description given to the local good time girls, my 4 iron holds no fear and I can actually hit it pretty well, pretty often

4 iron is one of my most consistent clubs, always seem to feel confident with it.

Do need to get something to fill the driver to 4 iron gap soon though, g15 or i15 hybrid have been catching my eye recently....
