Guys, after your opinions and knowledge... My problem is, I've never felt comfortable using a driver or 3 wood, I get the feeling that the shaft is too long and I get no feel from it! However, this all changed when I had a couple of swings with a mates Nike Sq Machspeed 3 wood. As soon as I picked it up I instantly noted how it felt similar to a hybrid in feel and length rather than a 3 wood. I hit it fairly well so immediately began searching when I got home. I just can't find one (new) anywhere! What I want to know is, are all 3 wood shafts the same length, what are you guys using and can you recommend any clubs? Hoping to get to my local AG this weekend to try some,

Cheers

Mike

Go try as many as you can! I have just go an rbz and I love it! Although a few will say its just as long their current fairway, for me it certainly is longer than my g15!
Some shafts are longer, the burner 2.0 is longer and I think the i20 is shorter!
It's all about personal preference! Go have fun trying!

Agreed, hit loads until you find one you like. For me it was the JPX800, very forgiving and just felt 'right' but may not be for you. Where are you based, I am sure someone can point you in the direction of a range where you can tape a load up.

I'm using the Burner Supertfast TP version and its epic. Seriously stunning flight and excellent feel with a great balance.

Ash!!

Thanks guys. Definitely gonna have fun testing some out!
Based in Worcestershire, west mids so any ideas on a decent range to test some out?

As stated above, try lots of different ones. There are ones with fairly large heads, some with small compact heads. Some are strong, most standard. Depends what you want it for really. If you plan to use it mainly off the tee get a larger headed one, for fairway use a more compact head. Most have 15* of loft but strong ones have 13/13.5/14*

Also, there are no standards when it comes to shaft flexes so don't be put off if you think it is the wrong flex for you. Try it anyway, it might be right for you.

Certainly not all the same length.
I have an R11 3 Wood and a RBZ 3 wood, the RBZ is just over 1/2" longer.

I'm not convinced with the RBZ yet but it's still early days.
I was planning on ditching my R11 Driver and use the RBZ 3 wood as a replacement as I never got on that well with my R11 driver.

However... Now I can do some great shots with my driver and can't use the 3 wood.

I have far more success with my R11 5Ti than I do with any other club so that seems to come out the bag most often now.

If you "have car, will travel" then go to the Three Hammers golf centre next time you are heading North.
Great selection of new and USED stock.

Bromsgrove? they used to sell gear, though only new.

If you want a large 3 wood (I want a JPX800) my ti R5 dual might need a home.

I just got my 1st 3 wood - the RBZ, I'm still getting used to hitting it - but after hitting a 210ish shot from the fairway onto the green yesterday I'd say it shows potential.

Like everyone says go and try a few, I tried a few different ones, narrowed it down to the RBZ and a Calloway razor. The RBZ just edged it, was a little easier to make contact of the deck and I got it straight more often :D.

Just to update you all.......popped along to my local AG and tried the following clubs;

Cobra AMP 3W
Nike VR_S 3W
Taylormade RBZ

Which did I purchase; TM RBZ
Why - hit 10-12 with it and it just felt right. Not too heavy and was hitting it well. Fairly relaxed swing as I hate being watched closely by people I don't know but was carrying 200yards with a slight fade. This was all off the tee.
The Nike had a really small club face and I just couldn't get on with it, was coming off the club face at such a low launch angle. Cobra felt nice and would have been happy to purchase that too but the white head won it over the fluorescent grip!

All in, a good day. Playing in the morning so we'll see for real then!

And one of the wonderful aspects of Golf is that as soon as you hand over the cash th club that performed great in testing suddenly 'packs a sad' and you can't hit it for toffee! :mmm:

Good Lick with the new toy!

That is sooo true - I got the RBZ too, hitting it lovely at the store. Took me a couple of goes at the range before I felt comfortable with it tho - first few shots were awful once it was mine :)

Good choice tho - I felt the same, the RBZ was just nicer to hit and I love the white head, not to every ones taste but I think it looks great.
