So the + handicap boys actually GAIN a shot by playing 3/4's?

Isnt that a little weird?

He should play off +4, if there is any mathematical or numeracy logic in the stroke allowance.

But there probably isn't.

Here's the ruling - Page 2 http://hampshireladiesgolf.co.uk/wp/wp-content/uploads/conguhandicapallowances2008-11.pdf

And yes, there is correct logic in it!

Think of the relative advantage a 4 handicapper gets over a 12 or 16 handicapper. The 4-capper loses 1 shot, the 12 loses 3 and the 16 loses 4. So the the 4 handicapper has relatively 'gained' 2 and 3 shots respectively. The same should apply to 'better' players whether they are above or below Scratch!

Works differently in 4BBB Strokeplay as the Low guy becomes logical scratch! But with the same 'nett' result. If you do the calcs with guys off +4, 0, 4 and 8 (for ease of calc), the number of shots 'lost' by each player, compared against the low capper, is the same both ways (1,2,3 resp).
