2025 Formula 1 season

In which case, might I suggest that if anyone isn't prepared to deal with the ensuing discussion caused by lobbing a grenade into the thread, that they refrain from doing so in future?
You are free to say as you please mate. If you dont like the response then 🤷

A lot of F1 is about the “stars” that latch onto the sport because of the money flying around

Also the sound of the cars - when they were v12s etc the sound of the going round was impressive

I do like Verstappen- he seems to be a bit like Senna , takes the risks to try and win

Would be good to see McLaren get a win

Really looking forward to it. Hoping that it's similar to the 2nd half of last season where any team could win...
Hopefully Lewis can put in a challenge this year..
Its really difficult to predict how it will go with it being last year before reg changes.. You would think teams will have to split there resources between upgrades for 2025 cars and next year's..

I’d thought I watch a recording of the Indy race from St Petersburg later tonight, ( please don’t post the result) but I noticed during the adverts for it, that it claims to be the fastest racing in the world.
I’ve never watched much Indy, but do those cars run faster than F1?

I presume he is referring to AD21. In which case he is spot on. In fact that whole season was contrived to hand the trophy to Max.

I’ve watched F1 for 40 years and what happened in AD21 was one of the most, if not the most blatant act of a result being manipulated in the sports history. There can’t be many worse in other sports too.
I can’t think of a worse example in any sports, let alone F1, it was an absolute travesty.

I’m looking forward to the start of the season, I’m hoping Lewis can get number 8 and then Lando can pick up a WC.

I have to say I’m surprised there isn’t more being said about the car crash that is Ben Sulayem and his FIA presidency, lots of rumours about him trying to change the rules so it’s harder to challenge him/Susie Woolf going to run for the Presidency at the end of the year.

Drive to Survive new series out on Friday I think?

Well I watched for about twenty minutes, it’s no challenge to F1 in terms of entertainment.

Believe that their top flat speed it a little bit higher than F1

Just under 240mph for Indy car and around 220 for F1

Oval racing isn't the most entertaining.
They do race street circuits etc too but I've never really tried to get in to it. The time diff plays a big part in that TBF.
Obviously a massive trade off in speed Vs down force in track and street as opposed to oval so I'd say the top speed thing is a bit of a misnomer. It's a lot more nuanced than just raw speed in F1 for sure .
Also @Arthur Wedge F1 hasn't used V12s for maybe 30 years.

Well whenever they changed from a car that sounded like a meaty racing car to a car that sounded like a vacuum cleaner - 8 years maybe ?

Yes way slower than F1. A MotoGP bike would need something like half a lap head start in a race with an F1 car.
Perhaps start a Moto gp thread
MotoGP bikes are much faster accelerating than F1 and higher top speed, F1 destroys them on cornering speed and braking though, so quicker lap times.

I think Indy cars are a bit heavier than F1, so while they have a higher top speed on an oval circuit they have a slightly slower lap time round a typical F1 track.

One of the major differences is that F1 cars carry the fuel needed for a whole race whereas Indy cars have refuelling stops making them lighter.

A few years ago the cars for ovals had substantially different wing designs than those on the car for tracks and street circuits.

for me, a lot of the attraction of F1 was the sound of the cars, its a shame we have lost that.

The wife’s family have some sort of membership at Silverstone where they get entry into a stand and some enclosure - they go up regularly and used to enjoy the F1 but they stopped going and gave the tickers and access for that weekend to others

They go and see a lot of the other racing because for them it feels and sounds like proper race cars when they go past
