I'm now 65 and it's getting a little bit harder each year to stay at cat 1. No big deal for most but I hate playing off 6 for some odd reason. So, that's my goal, staying at 5. No other real ambition golf wise as I've been there and done that. Being a member at more than one club gives me plenty choices being links and parkland. Apart from that, just enjoy the game and the company.

Don’t know if handicap targets really help me so here are mine

1) get driver SS up to 110mph from 100mph with super speed training
2) don’t spend any money on clubs
3) get arccos approach handicap down to 10
4) get arccos chipping handicap down to 10
5) get an indoor garage setup for hitting real balls

Some good courses lined up there. I might play a lot of golf in the sun next year(s)... starting mid Feb

I intend to play lots of golf next year. After all, I'll have to fill my retirement somehow:clap:

You can off people you know ...

get an official handicap, then lower it to +18 so I can play on the Trilby Tour (with wife as caddy)

I have shot +26 this year, incidentally the only time I have ever broken 100. Lowest before that was +38, 2 weeks earlier so not bad.

How do you find the super speed training?

2018 target for me is to improve my golf fitness to enable me to play pain free whenever I play, and also to work on increasing swing speed.

Another target is to win my club championship.

Interesting. I'm guessing from the rest of your post that your handicap is in the teens? Personally there are other things I would work on first to lower my handicap than hitting it an extra 30 yards into the cabbage.

anyway D4S. What’s your answer to your original post :D

Good question, seems to change every time I think about it :D

Primarily get back down to 4 or better and keep nibbling away at the top 100 list. Currently putting together a trip for May to play some of the courses in the SW of Ireland.
Play a few more opens than I managed this year (only 2 I think  )

Like Andy said, I'd love to win my club championship as well but having a +5 hcp in the field might make it a bit tricky :mmm:

I was runner-up in our club champ's this year to a +4 handicapper. I was well chuffed, and only 6 shots behind him :p
He's turned Pro now, so perhaps I have a chance of winning.

Have a word with the secretary and make sure the clubs champs clashes with the British Amateur or something! ;)

We’re fairly lucky at ours because we still play the odd qualifier during the winter months so I don’t need to distinguish between calendar years - it’s an ongoing thing.

After a fairly horrible 18 months on the course, during which my handicap spiralled to its highest for nearly 10 years, I’ve at long last started to see some reward for my hard work on the range. I won a couple of pairs events earlier in the year (a 15 handicap golfer who can still boom it miles tends to be a sought after commodity in those competitions!), and after a really solid start to Winter League I’ve recently got a 2 shot reduction in the review.

Back to 13 and still playing within even that, my targets now are;

1. Consistency.
2. Enjoyment.

Simple as that. And if I can combine the two there’s no reason I can’t get back to being the single figure golfer I was four or five years ago.
