2016 Golf - Rank these in order of excitement

For me

1) Ryder Cup, especially if the US and Europe pick the young guns
2) The Masters
3) The US Open
4) The Open
5) The PGA
6) Washing my hair
7) Olympic Golf Gold Medal

I can't, because they are all dead boring. I would rather be out on the course playing

The Open
Ryder Cup
The Masters
US Open
PGA Champs

Cleaning the toilet with a toothbrush

Doing a full loop of the M25 in rush hour

Being buried alive

Olympics golf

The Open
The Masters
Ryder Cup
Olympic Golf
US Open
US PGA

I'm quite excited for the Olympics. It's the pinnacle event in sport, and the first time that we've seen Golf at the games in our lifetime. It's going to be a great competition I think.

Except it isn;t for golf and I can't see how it can be. The Olympics tennis has been going a few years now and there is no suggestion (that I've heard) that winning it is taking precedence or greater importance for players over the majors

Cheers for that. Ever thought of helping out the mag in their preview issues of the big tournaments as I feel you would have a lot to contribute?

'So it's the Ryder Cup coming up, acknowledged by many to be one of the great sporting contests. With the Americans fielding a young hungry team and the Europeans looking to continue their domination, especially as golfer, you must be really looking forwards to it.'

'No, it's boring.'

What about the majors now we are potentially in a new era with 3 young exciting players at the top of their game, all vying for supremacy. You can then add in players like Fowler, Johnson and many others. You must be looking forwards to seeing how the majors all unfold?

No, they are all dead boring.

Well thanks for that. Back to the studio.....

Will stick my head above the parapet and say I'm really looking forward to the Golf at the olympics...not a fan of Olympics the best of times but I think I will enjoy the format of these top players playing for their country as a matter of pride and I expect to see good golf so what's not to like.

For me:

The Open
Ryder Cup
The masters
The Olympics
The rest I will probably watch them all including smaller tournys

I can't understand how anyone in the UK would put the Masters before the Open Championship?

Personally, i find watching Links golf hard work, and also, Middle of July at the weekend, i'd rather be on the course playing. whereas nothing beats settling down for the evening to watch the Masters.

These are my thoughts too. I just don't find links golf that interesting.

I should add that i still make a real effort to watch as much as possible of it.

Another reason i've just remembered is that the outcome of the tournament is so often heavily influenced by which end of the draw you are.

As much as I love the BBC and still am not sure about the move to Sky due to the exposure, to me the 'Last of The Summer Wine, old duffers in blazers' type presentation that the BBC did at The Open does not help. Hopefully Sky will modernise things a bit without losing the tradition.

To me links golf can be great to watch but it also can be a but of a slog if the conditions are especially bad. I also like settling down in front of the TV of an evening to watch the golf, especially if it is on the east coast of the US as it does not finish too late.

The presentation for the Open is done and dictated by the R&A not the broadcasting company - it wasn't the BBCs choice to have the R&A hierarchy do the presentation.

It's not just the presentation bit at the end but the overall presentation of the event, the whole Peter Alliss/Old Boys schtick that, whilst I appreciate that others find endearing, got a bit tiresome for me. But hey, let's see what Sky do with it.

And actually I suspect nowadays in the world of big money TV rights, if whoever is paying the R&A for the TV rights says to them 'drop the rambling speech by the old duffers in blazers bit' they would do it.

You forgot the the real number 1 the GM Forum Trumpnoustie extravaganza

But among the TV excitements

1) Ryder Cup

2) The Masters ('cos it ends the winter drought)
3) The Open ('cos it's the best all round test)
4) The US Open
5) The PGA
6) Olympic Golf Gold Medal

Washing my hair is way down the list of excitements in my life - well below a visit to the fridge, so I dropped it :-)

This...especially the nod to Trump-Noustie

1) Ryder Cup - Pure excitement for me
2) The Masters - Always excited by the Masters, a visual treat and such a gap since anything decent in golf happened
3) The Open - Feel guilty about placing it below the Masters but it was close for me
4) The Olympics - Keen to see how this is embraced but haven't researced viewing times from Rio and weather it will be watchable live
5) US Open -
6) US PGA

1. Ryder cup - genuine excitement and now played in a great spirit
2. The Open - never fails to throw up something interesting
3. US Open - welcome to tough golf, gentlemen
4. Olympics - Interesting...
5. The Masters - schmaltzy fairground which is dull until the back nine sunday
6/7. US PGA/Hairwashing - 'cue tumblweeds'

Which I find a bit sad really.

As much as I enjoy playing golf, and I do play EVERY day the weather allows me to do so, I find it incredibly boring to watch. Golf is NOT a spectators sport.

You watch a player swing at a ball, and then with a bit of luck the camera man finds it flying trough the air and follows it to the ground. Nobody wants to watch him spending the next ten minutes walking up the fairway so the cameras changes to another match, at which point we see another player hit a ball. The camera attempts to follow the ball through the air until it eventually lands on the grass. We don't want to watch the player walk for ten minutes so the camera changes to another a match etc etc etc etc.

Some sports televise brilliantly, and some poorly. Golf televises WORSE than poorly. I believe that if you have time to watch golf, you have time to play it, so get out there

I generally watch the pga tour which is on late at night...so yes I might have time to play, but it may be a tad dark at that time lol.
