playing a greensome (choose a drive and then alternate shots) last night two chaps we played and beaten 5 and 4 but it was the scoring that was interesting.

We were all around 15 - 17 hc and our team gave them one shot based on the calculations.

By the end of the 14th hole we were soundly beaten their scratch score was 1 over par which was a net -12 or something like that. ours for info was 7 over.

We didnt play a particularly bad shot all day but were well and truly gubbed.

Is this normal for a greensome or did we just catch them on a day when they were on fire?

if there is a low handicapper playing with a reasonable high handicapper, you could get decent low nett scores. If I could have putted anything like we could have easily had a gross score of around 75-76 when I play mixed greensome comp last weekend we had a gross 83, which included around 42 putts! He was off 6 I was off 24 so our handicap was 13.2 which would have given us 62/63 nett.

I ran a society event once where the winner scored 48 points (also -12) and was called a bandit by the guy who came second ..... with 47.

He was immediately awarded a "pot kettle" award for life.

a lot depends on the nature of the golfers and the course with things like this. two guys with weakness off the tee on a relatively short course in good condition could make such a score - there is also the important factor that they didn't play all 18 (how many times have we individually shot the lights out for 9/10...11 holes?)

I actually think that greensomes is going to deliver a better score for such handicaps than 4BBB. My logic is that you get to choose the second shot playing to the strengths of your team. Whilst I would expect lower handicappers to shoot better in 4BBB because they will benefit from having 2 balls in play longer.
