Only last week I felt I was starting to hit the ball quite well but now I feel like I've taken a step back.

But let me explain, I had a lesson earlier in the week and my pro agree that my swing was really starting come along BUT he would like to see
more shoulder turn on the backswing.

My backswing now feels strange, a little out of control and my timing is totally out.

I just hope this is one temporary step back for two steps forward! Learning how to play golf can be frustrating at times!

Not so much as a reply but i thought i would say your not the only one. I had a lesson a week ago and i seem to be stuck in limbo between what i was doing and what my pro says i should be doing.

Don't worry you'll get through it.

The key thing to remember when having lessons is the reason you are having lessons and that is because your old comfortable swing doesn't work :D Any big change to the swing will feel odd at 1st and it is inevitable you will play worse for a bit but you have to take the good out of it, recognise the good shots and keep working at it in the knowledge it will get better.

i agree, anything new feels strange, but stick at it. ive been at the same pro for 5 years, and he helpes me lower my handicap from 21 to 9!
Every time we work on something new, i spend a lot of time at the range beating balls until the new thing becomes part of my swing(well,my best interpretation of it!
Keep at it!

If it feels unnatural it usually means it is working. When you get something new in your swing and its comfy straight away chances are old habits are creeping back in. Get to the range and work on it until you can feel the change working and then rely on it
