£100 barrier broken

Still expensive but only £1.34 a litre for unleaded in Grantham. Why does my car always rnu out of fuel when I am nowhere near home to take advantage of it.

Very interesting...

It is a verifiable fact that the human land speed record was set in 1899 at 65 mph by an electric car. Steam and gasoline-powered automobiles could not achieve this for another 20 to 25 years. Today, technology has progressed immensely, and yet, we still have no electric cars. The best production model is the Toyota Prius
, which gets 50 mpg. This only intensifies the theory that the U. S. oil companies currently possess the technology for purely electric cars, which you can plug into an ordinary, American wall outlet at night and charge up to a cross-country trip by morning.

But because this would, in truth, bankrupt the oil companies, they refuse to release the technology, and have even put out successful hits on various geniuses since the 1960s, none of whom became very famous, because he was killed before he could make his publish his discovery. A documentary in 2006, “Who Killed the Electric Car?” fueled the fire that if the technology is documented to have existed as early as the 1830s, why did it appear to hits its peak at the turn of the 20th Century, and then decline? Why are we still waiting for electric cars? Edison patented one in 1913. All the electrical pioneers of that time tinkered with the idea, and plenty of reasonable examples were produced.

You get 400 miles to a tank out of your Cupra?!

He goes every where with it on the back of a low loader.

Anything with a turbo can be economical if you lay off the loud pedal....but why then own a fast car...

Yep, 400 miles driving economically. Maybe it's because I'm boring or too sensible, but driving fast loses it's appeal pretty quickly for me. More concentration, more chance of an accident, more stress, no thanks.

Every now and then it's nice and it still brings a big grin to my face.

Change gear around 2k rpm then on the motorway I'll sit behind a lorry with cruise control on drinking my coffee.

I've only had it on a low loader once. Cost me £750 altogether so I'll try to avoid that one again!

Yes, I agree with this intelligent chap!

I never drive fast and I get 350 miles out of my Zafira Breeze's tank.

Lovely jubbly! :o

As others have said its only going to get worse. Where do we draw the line and how long do we as a nation lie down and take it. We are the most expensive nation for our petrol and yet for the most part other top nations are finding ways to balance the books without crushing the motorist

I used to have a car (circa 1993) that did 25miles to the gallon when it was 50p/litre

You can now buy a car that does 83miles to the gallon and it's 146p/litre

By my maths that's actually cheaper now than it was 19yrs ago.....

....... if you have one of those fancy new cars ;)

Lump - You drive like a getaway driver for a columbian drug cartel! You were up to 100 on the M 1after about 40 yards! You probably had to refill after 4 miles

I did a double take last week when I topped £70 for the first time in my current motor. I'm getting 60mpg, 600 miles to the tank, but still have to fill up once a week. Still, better than the twice a week I was doing last year in my old Saab soft top. Much as I loved that car, just couldn't afford it today.
