Hey guys. Good to see some familiar names again. Ah. Same old forum, eh. Lol.
Yes, I was a bit of a video buff back in the day and it's good to look back at the old Forum meets for a laugh. I still reckon one of the best moments caught on camera was during the England v Scotland Ryder Cup meet...
Hey chaps,
Just saying a wee hello again after a bit of an extended absence. :)
I see that my first post was waayyyyy back in 2007 and my last one was in 2015. I call those the GM Forum obsessive years!
I've only had one actual round in anger since then (at Nairn in March 2022) but am on the...
It has a reputation as a ball losing course, yeah. Lots of gorse but some of the best views in Edinburgh. And it's run by the Council.
There are just some holes you have to be sensible off the tee, even taking as little as an 8 iron to keep it in play, as I did yesterday. On other holes there...
Another feature I like is the ability to take a screen shot of individual shots to incorporate within videos. A bit like this from today.

Adds a wee bit of interest when you can't see where the ball ends up from the video itself.
Probably shooting a 74 around the Old Course at St Andrews in 2008.
I had never played the course before and it was the a wee treat to myself as it was the 100th course I'd ever played. My girlfriend/now wife came round with me and took some video (I see the YouTube video now has over 25,000...
I always try to concentrate on the basics when I'm out. Alignment and ball position can so easily change from round to round so I decided to invest in a set-up stick recently. Here's one. I can recommend, although to be honest, something simpler would work too.

Aye. I believe Ian's a member there.
Luckily for me, Jake, who was 2 up at the time, had hit it from the fairway bunker into it. You'll see his ball nestling in it. I played it sensibly for a steady par. Blind 2nd shot over a ridge. I got lucky.
That's why my partner wisely suggested we hit hybrids off the tee. Leaves a full shot in and not worrying about the wall. I've seen people nestle up against it with driver off the tee, or with their second shot :-)
Spey Valley, Boat of Garten and Grantown-on-Spey would be the 3 courses I would play. They're all excellent and you would enjoy them all, I'm sure. I did.
The greens were superb the other day. True, fast and subtle. Sadly had 38 putts but that's not surprising when I had quite a few 25 yarders to negotiate.
I know what you mean about the 18th. Nice drivable par 4, although the cars on the right are further away than I remember. I was 1 down going...
