Did well to hit it. I'd have been a wreck with everyone watching. I'd have probably reached for the 8 iron :mmm:

Getting beaten by PNWokingham and TXL 8 and 6 is up there. Still can't get the image of Paul, running round the 12th green celebrating his winning birdie putt from about 40 feet, out of my head. Not that he has ever mentioned it again.

How about this one

Playing at Reigate Heath, hole on the back 9 which has the car park about 50 yards to the right, full of nice cars, etc etc

Playing with 2 friends, I had only just started playing really so much more of a hacker than I am even now.

Hit my drive and it is fairly crap, high booming banana slice, looks maybe in deep rough or bounced OOB, pretty pee'd off.

My friend is a leftie, so I joke I need to start playing that way, as I am left handed writer who plays golf righty.

I take his driver and smack one, straight off the toe, and heading like a bullet into the car park.

Out of the 50 or so cars in the car park, it hits...My playing partners car. What are the chances... (2%).

Amazing just a ball mark on his bumper and nothing smashed...

About 3 years ago four of us booked a weekend golf/spa break at MacDonalds Portal hotel. The women went shopping to Liverpool on Saturday afternoon while my mate and I played our first round. I think we were on the eleventh hole when the lightning started and it went black. The hail started and the lightning was uncomfortably close as we pegged it back to the car park.

It was all over in about 15 minutes but we had to wait another half hour before the hail disappeared off the course so we went for a quick pint. The hotel was in darkness when we went in and apparently a nearby pylon had been struck so there was only an emergency supply. We finished our round and went to go to our rooms only to be told that the hotel was closing and we would have to go home. Our partners thought we were having them on when they arrived at the hotel and we gave them the news so not a good experience all round.

i had to give up my job as i am not able to do it anymore ,so am currently one of the unwashed benefit scum.

We have a winner.
That sounds horrendous.

Chin up Norrin. Hope things get better for you.

Playing in Richmond Park is up there for me. Course is crowded, no one shouts four and there is genuinely a danger of being hit in the head.

Played in Spain; group behind were incredibly impatient and would tee off whilst we were still in range. They did this on holes 1-8 before we let them play through.
I spoke good Spanish at the time so had a row with the main culprit who said the rules state you can smash balls at groups in front if they are playing slow.
We had a heated exchange for 5 minutes - we came close to having an actual fight.
By the 14th the whole course was log jammed so I told him to expect a missile up his backside whilst walking down the fairway. I waited until they were out of range, as I am not a complete dimwit.

St Mellion one year. Rained so hard but I was determined to play. I was so wet when I finished that my iPhone stopped working for a couple of hours.
Wife picked me up in the car and had to put 2 towels on the passenger seat so I didn't get the car wet.

Mitcham golf course; had a couple of less than great experiences here, mainly due to the club being a bit snobby. Didn't make two of my mates feel particularly welcome, which had an impact on their play and overall enjoyment.

Surprised at Mitcham being classed as snobby. As working class as it gets, full of London cabbies. Always had a great reception there although not my favourite course. Agree about both Richmond Park courses but as a great course for newbie golfers (and drunken idiots) etiquette, indeed common sense will be at a premium. It's a shame as I like playing there but it's a royal pain when I do

Woodhall Spa was the worst I reckon Murph.
Although the worst rain I've ever played in was at St Mellion.
It had been "spitting" all the way round, got a little heavier as we started the back 9, and by the time we got to around the 15th it was torrential.
Not a hint of wind, it was coming straight down. I have never (ever) seen rain as heavy as that before.
We carried on, but by the time we got round to the 18th the whole course was underwater. It was incredible, and totally unplayable.
We were in one of the final 3 or 4 groups, we actually all got presented with a sleeve of golf balls afterwards for trying to at least continue with the round (I was made of sterner stuff in those days).
Felt sorry for one of the lads in the group behind. He didn't have any waterproofs with him and was just playing in a pair of chino's and a white short sleeve shirt.
He could not have been any wetter had we thrown him in the lake by the 18th green..... seriously.

People might have laughed at you as you walked in but I was well chuffed(not) having to walk in from the 9th.

The Mitcham issue is weird I agree. Main issue stemmed from the chap in the pro shop who wasn't going to let my mate on the course in his shorts as he said 'they look like denim', despite being made of cotton.

I'll never play Richmond park again. Not sure how long ago you last played Homer but I played it a couple of years ago after they had finished putting in the new club house and range. They've had to change the courses round to accommodate the new 1st hole, which meant we were just playing par 4 after par 4 with very little variation. It was absolutely rubbish. Club house is nice though.

I had exactly the same when four of us were in Portugal for a golf week.
We'd pre-booked a round at Penina but they made us feel like utter scum to the point where they wouldn't let us buy course planners! They just gave us photo-copied planners!
Awful performance .................... oh, and the course was awful too!
It was absolutely rammed with golfers and I found the actual course totally underwhelming.
I'll not be back, I far prefer Palmares Golf Course.

I think we can all relate to many of these situations in varying degrees of extremity.

What I love about this thread - confrontations, near hypothermia, misery and disappointments topped off by Norrin's life-changing injury....is we all do this in our precious free time for enjoyment :rofl:

Thinking back it's hard to find a bad experience mainly because I'm playing golf and always enjoying playing golf - weather doesn't bother me too much

But I do remember one day

It was in my 3rd year of playing - I qualified for our Champion of Champions Comp and was drawn with a 1 HC and another.
This 1 HC was beyond arrogant , I knew it wouldn't be a good day when he laughed at me when I had a massive top off the tee to go OOB - kept on playing and keeping mum , i managed to recover pretty well and was under HC at halfway until I got a horrific lie in a bunker , tried to smash it out but it stayed in and was still plugged , tried again and just clipped a lip and stayed in - his response was to start laughing again commenting how he heck did I manage to win the club KO.

Finally got out and my round was done so just walked around in silence - anyway came up to our 17th which is a drivable par 4 - he took it on but it was clear to me that it was touch and go and more than likely down in the trees , so we were searching around for ages couldn't find it - looked everywhere and once 5 mins had gone I said you need to play another , turned around and he suddenly claimed he had found it - in clear daylight on the edge of the path that we have all walked over many times - clearly dropped the ball , the other guy in the group didn't have the guts to back me up so he played the ball , got up and down for a birdie and ended the round level par - I refused to sign his card and left telling him that he was a disgrace to play with and his attitude to higher handicappers was shocking. He entered his card with the other guy signing it. I went in the office the next day and explained the situation but because it was my word against his then the score counted .

Thankfully he left the club a year later and low and behold when we had a scratch match last year and the opppo turned up guess who was in the team ! I begged to play against him and our captain came around with us , handed him a thumping and just smiled , he refused to shake my hand and stormed off , understand his club will no longer pick him.

Haven't played it for ages if I'm honest, but I didn't really have any issues with the layout, especially as I usually play it with some mates that are once a year golfers and it's about catching up, having a laugh and hopefully hitting the odd good shot. Perfect venue for that, especially on a summer's day

In all my years of playing this stupid game, I don't think I've ever met anybody like Slasher.
How can one man turn so many "tragedy" holes into "winners" is beyond my comprehension.
He can play a hole like an absolute muppet, and then by some fluke (it certainly isn't skill because he doesn't possess any) will walk off with a result.
And then he dances a little jig, looks at you with that puppy dog expression, gives a semi smile and you think to yourself "I'd love to wrap this putter around your head".
