No. You are one of those that the benefit system was built for, and if we could get rid of a few of those benefit scummers, we could direct more money to those that are deserving of it. Get well soon.

Watching my 14 year old daughter play the British Ladies Champion in the semi final of the SW Ladies Champ.
She was 4 down after 14, won three on the trot and absolutely striped her drive on 18.
The ball finished in a big divot which meant she could not hit the green and she lost with a bogey.

Cost me £30 as I told her I would give her a fiver for every hole she played after the 12th.

Round two on the Sunday at one of the early "Old Farts v Whippersnappers" meets held at Woodhall Spa.
Woke up to pouring rain and howling winds.
Ate breakfast at the hotel and hoped and prayed that it would die down a bit.
Got to the course, but it hadn't. It was that bad, the started suggested we teed off the green tees (forward of the ladies!!).
I didn't want to play. I was Captain of the Old Farts and didn't want to play. But so many people had a go at me for being a wimp, I had to.
I hated it. Possibly the worst weather conditions I have ever tried to play golf in, with "tried" being the operative word.
Playing against Paul Nash I was 4 down after 4 and hadn't even got my putter out.
Got to the 5th (short par 3) and he stuck his wedge to about a foot.
I put my club back in the bag, shook his hand and trudged back to the clubhouse, soaking wet and very, very miserable.
Faced with weather conditions like that, I will never, ever venture on to the 1st tee again.

I was thinking of this one, or the open we played in at Hever Castle! Never seen rain like it on a golf course.

Playing a scratch club match at Market Rasen my dad came to watch as he likes the course and watch me hack round a course. I hit my tee shot just short (15yds) of the big tree on the left of the fairway but I had a view and a 7i into the green (I think), set up to it, hit the shot, heard this thud and heard another thud next thing I saw was my dad collapse to the ground holding his temple........ The ball had hit the tree rebounded and hit him with some force. Scariest moment ever let alone the worst golf experience.

After a few minutes he got up said he was ok then left to go home, he had a bit of a sore head next day, we laugh about it today if it ever crops up in conversation but for me it was the worst moment on a golf course.

Making a 9 at the 18th at Stockley Park, accompanied by the howls of laughter from the upstairs clubhouse gallery

Woodhall Spa was the worst I reckon Murph.
Although the worst rain I've ever played in was at St Mellion.
It had been "spitting" all the way round, got a little heavier as we started the back 9, and by the time we got to around the 15th it was torrential.
Not a hint of wind, it was coming straight down. I have never (ever) seen rain as heavy as that before.
We carried on, but by the time we got round to the 18th the whole course was underwater. It was incredible, and totally unplayable.
We were in one of the final 3 or 4 groups, we actually all got presented with a sleeve of golf balls afterwards for trying to at least continue with the round (I was made of sterner stuff in those days).
Felt sorry for one of the lads in the group behind. He didn't have any waterproofs with him and was just playing in a pair of chino's and a white short sleeve shirt.
He could not have been any wetter had we thrown him in the lake by the 18th green..... seriously.

Playing wise I had a "moment"...

Think it was 2000/1 wand I was about level or +1 for club champs at Hindhead, playing 12th on day #2 (just 6 to go), probably leading or at least in the hunt.

My ball came to rest against a whispy bit of heather just off the fairway - hit 8 iron that went wide-right, into "don't go there land"... made a 12 on the 12th!!!

Think I birdied 13th, 15th and 16th on the way in but I don't remember it, was in a daze, was playing with the chaps who came in 1st and 2nd.
Makes me chuckle now, it's just how golf (sport) is... but I used to be a bit scarred by it.

I've had other rounds come off the rails in a variety of ways... but this one is probably the "worst experience" (so far!).

That's such a tragedy Norrin - very unfortunate. So sorry to hear it - especially ruining your work prospects.
Walking on old sleepers and woodwork is so treacherous - but I wonder if there's a liability to them on that?

Don't they have a duty of care to prepare/provide "safe" pathways etc?
I don't want clubs (or insurers) to have to pay out, but equally they should NOT install things that are potentially hazardous and unsafe.
By being a member or fee payer you are paying them to do that and they are banking that to pay for it and pay for their insurance etc.
Perhaps you might look into it.

Either way - personally see no problem with you claiming benefits if you are unable to work - no shame in that!

Played in the County 7's for my club in Hampshire which is an inter club K/O competition. I was 4 up with 5 to play and finished par/par/bogey/par/par and lost. My oppo went birdie/birdie/par/birdie/birdie. That was the day I realised you can never take anything for granted in golf.

Fortunately we scraped through 4-3

The rain at the Cooden meet a couple of years ago was of biblical proportions AND the battery on my trolley failed about 6 from home

1st round club champs this year. Played well and was on an Ok score, got to the 17th green and the wind changed around completely and increased to Gail force, then hailstones, lightning. took shelter behind my trolley. wind picked up the bag and trolley, ripped the brolly to pieces and flung the battery out of its housing, hit me on the head. had no time to put waterproofs on. walked down the last soaked to the skin, with a big bump on my head. most of the greens flooded and the round was abandoned.

We have a winner :D

Good to show you can have a laugh at a bad un!

Unlike some on here who have a sense of humour failure.
