Your top 5 sporting events/occasions

Great Britain v Australia Rugby League - Not had one in a few years, but for me it is incredible. War on the pitch

Super League grand final

Wigan v St Helens Rugby League (any time, but Good Friday is a cracking day)

Ryder Cup

The Masters

The Master's
The Open
Cheltenham Festival
PDC World Darts
World cup

I've based mine on events I never miss

1) Boro's 1st home game of season - can't beat that full of optimism excitement - normally lasts til around 5pm!
2) Football World Cup final - biggest day in sport.
3) Olympics 100m final - a lifetimes worth of work and dedication funnelled into less than 10 seconds. Pure tension.
4) FA Cup final - love the early build up, interviews, Team songs (not done for a while), Abide With Me etc as much as the match.
5) Big PPV boxing match - avid boxing fan. Quite often deliver on the hype.

Of those that i've visited:

1.) The Olympics. An unbelievable and unforgettable experience. The atmosphere was fantastic. Was watching Hockey the evening of the 100 metres final and at half-time there were people running up the stairs to peek over the top of the stand to watch on the big screen with that sort of childlike innocence and enthusiasm that we lose once we become older.

2.) Saints v Pompey. Again, an incredible atmosphere in St Marys. Saints lost 4-1 but the noise before the game was electric.

3.) Darts World Champs, the PDC version. Before it became too lary it was a cracking afternoon / evening. Has gone a bit too far for me now though.

4.) Dublin v Laois in the Leinster Gaelic Football Final. 82,000 in Croke Park. It was a bit noisy!

5.) Watching Ronnie O'Sullivan. Have done this twice. There's something about the guy, everyone is expecting something spectacular so there's a real sense of anticipation.

1. Ryder Cup
2. The Masters
3. The Open
4. US Open
5. US PGA

There are no other sporting events I'd be remotely bothered about missing.

1. The Masters
2. The Open
3. Ryder cup
4. Cheltenham festival
5. Junior golf presentation night at my club......always a great night

The grand national, as a spectacle, and as an occasion, still ranks up there too.

But wouldn't go out of my way ( too much ) for any football match nowadays.
Lost its appeal to me now, unfortunately

Interesting how many stalwart golfers on a golf forum who don't have the Open in their top 5

1) The Open
2) The Olympics
3) The Masters
4) World Cup
5) The Winter Olympics

The Masters, always indicates the start of the golf season.

TT races, not the best riders in the world but probably the bravest and a truly phenomenal atmosphere

First day of a Test match at Edgbaston, where the real cricket enthusiasts gather rather than the corporates

The Open, 'nuff said

Countryside Meeting at Cheltenham in November, less crowded and fewer p*** heads than the Festival

Of these only The Masters is a TV event for me, all the others you just have to be there..

To be honest, it's a struggle to think of 5.

Isle of Man TT
The Open
The Masters
Six Nations
World Cup

I could replace any of those with the Ryder Cup depending on my mood.

My top 5 I have been to

Isle of Man TT
Any England game at twickers
World superbike at brands hatch (foggy era)
Liverpool kop end on European night
Royal ascot/grand national

The Masters
The Open
Football World Cup
Ryder Cup
Wrestlemania

Wanted to include The Ashes, and big UFC PPV's, but couldn't squeeze them into the Top 5.

The ones I always look forward to:

1. The Open
2. World Cup Final
3. Tour De France
4. World Snooker Final
5. The Masters

Dropped the FA Cup Final out of my top 5. It used to have a full on sense of occasion, coverage build up would start at about 9am, people would be waiting to watch the teams set off from their hotel, arrive at Wembley, then the streets would go quiet as soon as the game kicked off. It just doesn't have that anymore (pos due to the amount of games now shown live).

Live?

1. A footie game where your team are playing for something big. (Promotion or Cup) Nothing to beat it especially when you win !!!!!!!!!
2. NFL
3. Speedway
4. WWE. Brilliant live even when you know its a set up.
5. Horse Racing

On TV
1. The Masters
2. The Open
3. The FA Cup Final
4. The Super Bowl
5. The Football Play Offs (All of them)
