Your first round of par or better

Oh yeh there's no way he's truly a 10 handicapper, when we play in friendly games the most I'd let him play off is 6. Thing is he play in every competition he can and for whatever reason doesn't score anywhere near as well so what's he supposed to do?

Well I can have a guess at why he doesn't score that well in comps

I was 14 or 15 years old and had a handicap of about the same. I can't specifically remember. I can remember a nett 59 playing off 22 I think. Early 1980's though so the mists of time have dimmed the memories somewhat....

shot 67 off 9 when I was still a kid (was the first comp of the summer and Id improved a fair bit over the winter lol), got cut down to either 4 or 5 if i remember rightly

no injuries to worry about and no mind to get in the way, twas a far easier game than it is now haha

First par round was at my old club when it was still a 9 holer.
Shot identical 9s. 2 bogeys and 2 birdies on the same holes both 9s.
I was off 10 at the time
A year or so later came my first sub par round. Course was extended to 18 and par was 71.
It was a fun competition, can't remember what format and a shotgun start. My last hole was a par 5 and I eagked it for a 69. Playing off 8 or 9..

I was in my mid teens. I remember it was sub par but can't remember the handicap, other than I made Pancho Villa look like a nursey maid.

First of any kind was a -1 when I was a teenager in a knockabout with mates.
Was -4 after 14 and bricked it. Was off 10 at the time.

First in comp was about 18 months ago, shot level in the club champs and think I was playing off 6.

Think I've had four sub par rounds.... I was off 6 or 7 for all of them....Ive been of 6 or 7 for about 7 years now and think that there was a three year gap between the third and fourth when earlier this year I managed 67 to beat my three previous 69's.

Off 18 on a 9 holer I grew up playing on. Par 4's probably average 320 yards it is a very short course.

Just had one day when everytihing went straight and within 10 yards of what I expected.

The 9th was a par 5 and I wedged on for 3 - I don't think I have ever been as nervous over the 2nd putt but wobbled it in for a par round.

I emphasise it wasn't long but it bloody felt good.

Shot lots of par or better rounds over the years, but they've never stuck in my mind as they were never in competition or off the full length course.

It wasn't until last year that I shot a par round in an open comp and missed the scratch salver to the Lothian's champion on the inward half......after a 3 putt on 16 as well. Still gutted by that.

Also shot off the whites a 68 scratch last year around Royal Musselburgh with one of my family who plays off 4 and murders the ball well past me. Gave him a wee short game lesson that day.

Only shot level once. This year in our club champs first round off 7. Target for next year is to break par. Would also like to have a bogey free round.

Have shot level par a fair few times, have been under par for 9 holes, but never under par for a full round, despite playing off 7 or below for over 20 years!!!
Worst one I remember was first round of Club Champs when I was about 19, was 3 under after 14, finished bogey, bogey, bogey, bogey

I obviously have the mental toughness of a jellyfish!!!!!!

3 under playing off six for my first time, it was in a comp too so got me a cut.

The one I will never forget was my first under par score away from home when playing in a scratch knockout match for the club. Finished 3 under and lost on the last hole. The other guy was 4 under.
