Youngest Golf Club Captain ever?

Bearing in mind this is a proper golf club with plenty members.

This fella could be a long standing member, that we don't know of. I feel the captain should be a long ish standing member though and know the club inside out etc. It should be the type of person who has got stuck in at the club at the time they have been there and mixed all sorts of competitions and events. Not just some old guy who has been a member a while and its "his turn" that's a load of crap that I think is stupid.

I don't see age as a barrier if he knows the club well enough and most members know who he is etc.

Totally agree with that. What you can bring to the role is what's important, rather than age or how long you've been a member.

First of all - an apology. He is actually 22! :o
However, he has been a Junior member, progressing to the Men's section. He has served on the Committee for a few years, obviously Vice Captain last year, standing in quite a few times last year for the Captain who was/is a serving Police Officer.
He also works for the company who run the golf course, having started as 'Saturday and Sunday Lad' in the Pro Shop/Green Fees Office. He is currently assistant to the Golf Manager of the company who manages the four courses our company operates.
None of this was instrumental in him being chosen as Vice/Captain. He was asked by the last years Captain if he would consider the role, he accepted and his nomination was accepted by the Committee. The club has approximately 400 members in the Men's section plus we have healthy Seniors, Ladies and Junior sections.

Our course is actually owned by the Council who lease it to the company he and I work for. The Club is a separate consideration who simply operate the competition/handicaps side of things but do have input to the running of the course via meetings with the Golf Manager of the company. Money for green fees go to the operating company, Membership/Competition fees go to the guest club. Sounds complicated but it isn't.

Anyway, I digress. Is he the youngest full Captain of a golf club currently or ever? He certainly must be in the running!

John

Whether he is or isn't I think he has the opportunity to really make a stamp and set the club on a solid road for the next few years. If he can do something about that elusive 25-35 membership gap and get those coming and staying that in itself would be a great achievement
