... I have hit under 100n again, at least now I know it was not just a one of; thinking about putting in my 3 handicap cards or should I wait?. I also did my longest ever drive, 290 (give or take a couple of yards) dead straight down the fairway, starting to love the Cobra even more now :D

I play at Milford Golf Club Surrey

There's no point hitting it 290 down the middle. Hit it 230 instead - much safe.

I was ignoring you and thought you might have said something worthwhile, back on ignore you go.

@OP get the cards in and then play lots of golf enjoy it while it lasts :D

Well played mate , get your cards in so then you can start to hopefully get a lower H/C.

Played Milford a few years ago , card destroyer of a 18th hole , but nice course.

Cheers

Totally agree that hole is a killer, I have lost a load of balls on it, but yesterday it was one of my better holes :)

Can't see why you would want to wait. The worse that can happen is you'll start at 28. Anything less look as a bonus. Once you get the cards it means you can enter comps and start to get it down. The quicker you get the cards in the quicker the quest to go as low as you can will start. It'll be a rocky road but well worth the journey

Surely the quicker you get the cards in the SLOWER the quest?

Tim don't be a plum all your life. He can't get a handicap without the three cards and so the quicker they go in the quicker the ability to get cut. Why try and be smart all the time?

I guess I just see it differently to you, Homer. Playing good golf has nothing to do with owning card which tells how good you're supposed to be, imo.

Good golf is about putting the lowest score possible in and to get cut involves playing in a competition. A cut or a 0.1 increase or indeed a buffer zone is a mark of how well you have played

If the ONLY objective is to get as low as possible then it must be better to wait to get your handicap until you're playing better :D

If you hand in a +16 when you're off 24 you get cut to 20.
If you hand in a +16 with no handicap you get given 16 (at worst).

Not the way I'd do it because I'd rather be playing comps as soon as possible, but there is logic there.

Nice one MJ - always good to repeat a milestone!

As for getting your cards in, I did mine the way Homer suggested. I put in 3 cards (all well over 100) as fast as I could knowing full well I'd be getting 28. The adrenalin rush on the 1st tee of my first comp was huge, if not incredibly scary. I could play great in bounce games but for the first few months couldn't get close to handicap in the medals. The reward though was seeing my improvement in competition play and the cuts that followed. Every single one of the cuts I received gave me a massive buzz because I've played under pressure and performed. It also means you get to meet and play with new people. That for me is what the game is about - taking the enjoyment from getting better, and making new friends. You can wait and get a lower starting handicap as Tim mentioned, but playing to that handicap when the pressure is on will not be easy. I say jump in asap and enjoy the journey. I'm glad that's what I did!! :D
