yardages at the range

I don't have much faith in range distances, but I think they're equally as likely to be short as they are long.

First, many ranges are curved in nature (as in, the building) - taking the centre bay can add 10 yards onto the same target as an outer bay.

Secondly, markers get moved, changed or simply not measured correctly in the first place.

Third, you're not hitting from grass.

Fourth, you're using cheap balls. You can often add 10 - 15 yards distance from non-rubbery range balls.

And finally, you need to consider my old friend the Parallax Effect:

Basically, the further away the ball lands, the more difficult it becomes to judge distance. It's why when you look down a runway it looks quite 'short', even though it's over a mile long.
