..... And if you look at the drainage covers at Wychwood, even they have a yardage to the green on them.

The old course at Hawkstone has Painted steaks with the yardage on at certain points on a hole.

My track has floor markers at 150, 80 and 50 yards although they are considering adding additional markers (a' la' Hawkstone)

we have a disc in the centre of the fairway (red at 100, yellow at 150, white at 200) and also we have a conifer tree either side of the fairway at 150 yards (so from almost anywhere you can see where 150 is)

150 yards to the middle of the green posts or markers on the edge of the fairway then coloured discs on the fairway from 250, 200, 150 100. Some better clubs do yardages from sprinkler heads. Personally I think they will become more obsolete due the fact most people use gps and range finders etc nowadays.

I once heard a green keeper say though you needed to change all the discs and markers etc once every 10 years due to the earth moving........ And I thought that was only happening in my bedroom!!

Lords Golf Club in Essex use a group of 3 conifers on one the side of each fairway as their 150 yard markers!

edit: Apparently it's now called The Rayleigh it was Lords but before that it was Hanover G.C could be anything next year!

thats a fair point but i would do away with a gps if my club had yrd markers from say 50 to 200 , plus it would help speed up play .....i think

They also have a bloody long difficult par 4 off of the whites...I couldn't even see the conifers on my second shot!

The likes of Ballyliffin over here have yardages on every sprinkler head, works really well, no need for gps, saying that though, gps is for guys that really gotta know their limitations (as Harry Callahan said).

It's been a couple of years since I played it (and they've probably changed the numbering) but which one are you thinking?

Think it's the ninth, on Yellows it's a par 5 but on whites it's a 4. Drive needs to clear a ditch that's at least 200yds away, then the green is protected by bunkers and the lake to the right. Think its around 450yds+ but the way I played it it could have been 600!

My course has only 100 yard markers, Ive talked to them about putting in 150 yard markers too, Which they are "thinking about"
But since i bought a Golf Buddy Voice Plus im not to bothered any more about the markers the GPS is amazing

+1 on this from me. And we basically have that as yardages are given on the fairway watering covers up to about 210 yds. Closest to green usually shows 96yds. Within that distance you shouldn't be needing to use DMD/GPS.

We have 200, 150 and 100 yard markers but not entirely sure how accurate these are so always go with Sky Caddy. Played Maidenhead recently and they have fairway watering in place so there is a yardage on every sprinker head which is handy

We have a red stake each side of the fairway at 150yds and yellow at 100yds, I have never liked the stakes as they get moved when cutting grass or by players when taking a shot and can be either 140-160yds and 90-110, I would prefer discs in the fairway.

We have 200 (white), 150 (yellow) and 100 (red) yard marker discs in the middle of the fairways. All distances to the middle of the green.

I played at my old course last year which had the same markers but it was only after the round that I checked and found that all distances were to the front of the green. I'd gone all the way round coming up short and couldn't figure out why! Always pays to check.

Rubbish! How can the distance between two point on the earth's surface change in ten years unless there is an earthquake?
Perhaps he was getting confused with magnetic north moving, as airport runways need their magnetic headings altered from time to time.

250, 200, 150 & 100yd discs on fairways.

Can't understand why any club golfer requires markers from less than 100.

Their short game is not precise enough to need anything other than their eyes.

A disc in the centre of the fairway at 150 from the centre of the green plus a yellow marker post to the right hand side of the fairway also at 150..
Not all of them are accurate.....
