decided to work on yardages on range this week end rather than go on course, what is the average add on to distances achieved on range , when out on course using proper balls. currently play srixon soft feel or ad 333.

now know yardage for every club in bag on the range lol , so time well spent

cheers

Hi Vinny

Be interested to know the comparison.

If you like Srixon Soft Feel or AD333, my local Sports Division have them at £9.99 per dozen, including the yellow AD333's

dont same ranges use reduced distance balls anyway? it would really depend on what ball the range uses. My local ranges uses srixon range balls, and i find the yardages about bang on the numbers of my burner tp's... (although thats if their markers are correct!! which i suspect they are not, as i hit the 150 marker yesterday with a gap wedge!) shorter clubs to me seem to go further at the range, where as my 6 iron goes about 170-180 which is about right

My local range has lots of 'greens' dotted around the place. I lasered one flag at 132 yards and a well hit 7 iron was pitching around that sort of distance. My on course 7 iron distance is 145-155 in summer depending on conditions.

I'd say 10% loss is a reasonable guesstimate. Another range close to me has flags at 'adjusted' distances to allow for the balls ie. the 100 yard flag is only 90 yards out etc.

It will vary with the age and condition of the balls, but generally I would say that up to 150 yards a 10% drop, after that a 15% drop is likely.

You might find that the 100 yard marker is actually at 90, and the 150 at 135, to compensate

Fragger

Personally I'd rather go and work the yardages with proper balls and take out the guesswork on the difference between them and range balls. Seems to be adding another unnecessary variable into the mix

alternatively play a few rounds with a range ball!

these threads do depress me though - 170-180 yds carry with a 6 iron being normal for someone with a handicap target of 14...... :fore:
