I was thinking it may be an option like a mini driver as either a second driver / driver replacement. Looking at the specs it has an open face and appears to be suggested as a better player club in places.

Anyone tried one what are they like to hit and do you think they are a better player club?

Hello there I did what your thinking about doing, Mini Vs the 3 Deep.

The 3 deep does of course have a slightly deeper face and is that bit easier to hit the a normal 3 wood, but for me it wasn't a big enough difference for me to interested using it as a driver replacement. It didn't really feel like a driver replacement club to me it just felt like a 3 wood that's bit easier to hit.

Mini is a total different story the size of the head, its totally a replacement for a driver , Easy to hit , didn't go any further then my normal 3 wood but i felt I could hit this off a tee straight more or less every time.
Off the floor well its tougher with the size of the head really gotta hit it sweet off the deck, when i did catch it well off the floor it had a lower ball flight i got the distance i expected from it but if i needed to hit a high 3 wood shot off the deck on a par 5 or long par 4 to clear water or bunkers or what ever i would struggle, But off the Tee its amazing

Thanks, only really looking for an off the tee club, i'm not all that consistent with my 3 wood off the deck and get enough distance with other clubs to not need to risk the trouble.

Have tried a few 3 woods now but nothing has really caught my eye and thought one of these may be worth a try, biggest problem with a mini is trying to find one to try.

For me the 3 deep is a fantastic club but if you truly just want a replacement driver off the tee then you wont be able to beat the Mini Driver. So easy to hit and launch high or low when needed

Or you could pick up a high loft Titlest 975 (or any equivalent from that era) and shorten the shaft!

Same result for about £25!!

True, I do have an old driver I guess I could stick that in the bag instead of the 3 wood and cut it down

Surely if you cut a 3 wood shaft down, you are just going to make the shaft a lot stiffer, which then may make it harder to hit...or is there some wizardry pokery that can be done to stop this from happening!?

I meant cutting a driver down, however this is a good point

How about a HL 3 Wood ( basically a 4 Wood )

I was talking chopping about old Driver to 3W length!

Not necessarily and there are ways round any of that too. And it's rare for most people really notice the difference anyway!

A shaft I had in a Driver that had a Profile of 7611 (but stiffness to tip stiffness). Lopping an inch or 2 off that wouldn't have affected the feel at all! And recommendation for putting a 'raw' shaft into a 3W is normally to tip-trim 1" anyway - which makes it stiffer.

Swing weight changes, but they can be compensated for too.
