Wrong driver shaft.

I hadn't panned on going as balls out with my driver fitting! I just knew I needed a new driver but after seeing the results of the shaft/head combination I had to have it!
I had budgeted around £200 for a new driver but ended up spending just over £400 lol but it's worth it!!

I use a aldila nvs 75g X stiff. It has helped my driving but I've lost distance, about 10-20yrds carry (mainly down the weight of the shaft). Big difference is I hit alot more fairways with it.
I'm looking at getting a lighter X stiff to hopefully get my SS back up to the mid teens again but I'm not sure I want too.

This thread is better than Jackanory......

..... mind you, at least the stories on Jackanory were almost believable ;)

I just got the Callaway Xhot and I got the Project X 6.5 which is the X stiff. My swing speed was about 107 i think. I needed a strong shaft to keep the ball down. The driver is 9.5*

With my old driver the shaft was no good and the ball span heaps and i lost it right most of the time. Now i hardly ever miss it right.

But my handicap was 2 or 3 it'd more believable right?
Mate, it's got nowt to do with your handicap, a swing speed of 115 average will not produce an average carry of 311 yards. Even at optimum launch conditions. It just won't, unless you're playing at altitude. Which is what I suspect the launch monitor was calibrated for.
I believe that you are a long hitter, longer than most, but the maths are wrong. You'd need to be well up over 120 average to get that carry.

Also those figures suggest you can carry the ball further through the air than the top tour guys are getting including role out. And with inferior clubhead speed.

Not suggesting you cannot hit a long ball but the launch monitor figures are not right. Would be wary getting fitted for a shaft off dodgy numbers personally.

The figures that are important imho are the spin rates, launch angles, club head speed, ball speed and face angle.

So in a way the distances are irrelevant and they can be messed around with depending on what information is added to the track man settings like wind, temps etc which effects distances.

So I wouldn't be put off by getting fitted,if you are not driving as well as you should or could be then there is definitely something that can be improved and makes it worth while getting fitted on one.

I have got a heavy stiff shaft in my driver at the minute. But I have got the loft all the way down just to try and keep it down. As the fitter told me if I got a stiffer lower launching shaft then i could put the loft back up again, which would help with consistency due to the extra loft that will be on the club.

Anyone got an X-stiff shaft with an r11s adaptor I could borrow for a smash down the range?

afraid not, but I agree the logic. I have a pair of Superfasts and the 10.5 launches lower than the 9.5 with the HD6 relative to the XCON 4.8 - both nominally S shafts.

find what works for you, but surely not down at those lofts!

Not surprised you need an xstiff shaft after seeing you hit a ball at FoA Adey. I was fitted for an xstiff shaft and was thinking you were at least as fast swinging as me, actually a handful of mph faster now you've got the numbers.
Good thing about having TM is most the shafts I see on eBay have r11 adapters fitted so you will have plenty of choice.
I'm still hitting my ping tour stiff shaft g20, hit some really nice drives with it recently that put me off changing even though it's not optimal, I'm not arguing with the on-course results.

The logic does make sense, but then all theoretical club fitting does. It is just a shame he did not have an X-stiff TM shaft that I could have tried in my driver to see the difference.

The G25 is on the back burner at the minute then?

I think I will go for the anser, but I want to hit both again to verify my decision. In the meantime the g20 is doing ok.
I have toyed with reshafting the g20 too, but haven't spotted an appropriate shaft and not sure I want to mess with it and make it unsaleable

I have the anser driver. The ahina shaft comes with no up charge in the anser. Its an original ahina too, not a made for ahina. The shaft alone is worth £160

I was fitted for a shaft when I took the game up, it was perfect.

As I got better I improved out of my shaft. I then got fitted for a new entire club and its perfect again!

It does make a difference, at least for the driver, I can see it also working for a putter too.
