When I got fitted for my new irons last night I also had a look if I had the correct shaft in my driver. After a few hits it turns out that I have got the wrong shaft fitted. Apparently I should be looking at a lower launch shaft in an X flex. I have got my driver tuned down to 7.5* to keep the ball down due to my swing speed that was measured at 114MPH.

So not only have I got a new set of irons with new wedges, it turns out I am going to have to go get a fancy shaft for my driver.

Anyone on here with a high swing speed fancy giving me an idea to what they are hitting.

I had a driver fitting 3 weeks ago and my swing speed was roughly the same as yours 115.2 average, I ended up with 2 drivers that I got on with, I can't remember exactly which shaft was in the ping anser that I didn't choose but I know it was pretty similar to the diamana d+ 72g x-flex that I have in my amp cell pro.

might be a strange question but how much difference does the correct shaft make to a driver,

Before I had my fitting I had a taylormade r11s with a stock tp reg shaft! I knew it was the wrong shaft for me
But we used it in the trackman to gain a comparison, with that my average swing speed
Was 107.3 mph with an average carry of 287.6 yards compared to my current cobra amp cell pro with the correct shaft I was at 115.2 mph average club head speed with an average carry of 311.9 yards.
So as you can see with me it made a massive difference

I have the wrong shaft in my driver and was custom fitted for it

It's been that long but when I was fitted I was offered the option of a few replacement shafts to try but I never got round to trying them......I wish I had.

My avg swing speed was 114 and we tried a different driver that was available with a stiffer shaft and it made my drives More accurate, reduced the spin rate and gave a much more penetrating ball flight.

With the stiff shaft I had fitted the spin rate was too high, the flight was too high and even though it looked good i was losing distance and then the roll out was non existent and to top it off I would occasionally lose shots left because of the slightly soft shaft causing the head to be closed ever so slightly at impact.

Definitely go for it as the difference will be noticeable

I use a stiff shaft currently but have been told with a swing speed of 88mph average I should be on a regular does it make the same difference going down from stiff to reg as it does the other way around

That was another area of my swing that was hurting me, with my old driver my spin rate was around 3500-4500 but the fitter managed to get that down to 1800-2300 rpm so I'm getting the most out of my swing now!

Theoretically you should be missing your drives to the right........hitting the ball lower, struggling to carry it as far as you could be if you had a regular shaft fitted.

My driver at the time was 7.5' and the driver I tried with a much better shaft fitted was 8.5' and I was managing with the higher lofted driver to reduce my spin rate, lower the trajectory to a more penetrating flight and ultimately hit it further and more accurately.

Yeah 8.5 was the optimum loft for me too, I think the old driver was set at 10.5 and combined with the reg shaft it was almost like a boomerang shape to the ball lol,

Up until a couple of months ago I had a set of irons that were incorrectly fitted for me by a well know golf store!! So it's all about finding someone you can trust or come with a good rep!

I went to see 2 other club fitters and they both recommended a lighter and softer shaft than what I'd already been fitted with. The shafts i was fitted for, apparently my swing speed would never reach the speeds required! Got all my irons reshafted and its made a huge difference to my game.

Exactly what my drives are like.

You average 312 yards carry and play off 23??? There's no hope for me with 220 then!!

If you are looking for a driver shaft with a low launch then you cant go far wrong with a Prolaunch Red. My son has a swing speed of around 110 and was using a Ahina shaft and it was just producing too much of a high ball. got him a Prolaunch Red shaft and he has gained at least 30 yeards off the tee. The shafts are not that expensive as well.

At the moment my short game and putting is massively letting me down! But I'm working on it and me and my pro are pretty confident that I'll be down to at least 15 by the end of the year lol. + being 6 foot 4" and 18 stone helps quite a lot lol

very impressive considering 305 yards is leading driving stats on PGA tour. Methinks launch monitor needs recalibrated :D

I remember playing a team match for Callander back in 2011 against polmont and was paired against a fella I use to play alongside in the county as a junior and he was properly set up with the driver he had.

My drives looked more spectacular with the height they were going and you would have thought they would of went further in comparison to his.

But his were more penetrating and he was getting more run out so his drives were going that little bit further.after a discussion about shafts I decided to go get set up properly......

I might do it again further down the line but for just now I'll plod along with what I've got.
