Also as an ex serviceman you’d know it’s actually bad form for a man or woman to remove their headdress for the national anthem as it shows disrespect to the crown you swore allegiance to. It would also be highly irregular to see a man rock up to a funeral wearing a hat and people put far to much stock in the bearing and importance of a flag so to remove a hat upon seeing one would just be odd!

I would completely respect the rules of wherever I am, but if someone else were offended at me or anyone not removing their hat indoors in general then that’s their fault for being so easily offended about how another human chooses to dress.

Played at Dewsbury last week - they've now got a 'no entry' type sign on the door warning people not to wear caps in the bar - which is by and large sparsely populated most of the time.
Following day, I'm at Willow Valley and count nine caps in the bar, it was busy as it was the Captains drive in but on any given Saturday or Sunday there's always a good crowd in there. I'd class both as working class golf clubs.

I'll ask this to those that have an opinion either way on the matter - what purpose does it serve to make people remove a cap. I don't go in the bar at Dewsbury and feel a sense of prestige cos there's nobody wearing a hat - is it a bit an outdated policy that golf clubs need to start redressing? (I know many have of course)

It's not example of anything. I'm just saying it's very curious to me when the original meaning of things get lost over the centuries but somehow the words live on without any meaning at all. It's 'good manners' to take your hat off indoors. Why? Err, dunno it just is. Same with the shoes in the car park thing. It's just rules for the sake of having rules. If we removed some of those rules that have no logic or meaning behind them, then we might not have any rules left - heaven forfend!
