Would it be worth it?

I went to my local Direct Golf the other day and booked one of there free golf MOT's.

They tested the lie on my irons as they were not fitted for me and it turns out they need to be 1* flat.

They charge £30 for doing it and then check them twice a year for a £30 fee.

So would getting them made 1* flat make that much of a difference?

If you'd gone through the fitting process and were having new clubs made then it probably would be but in this case almost certainly not.

Still don't agree for a 22 h/capper that 1 degree would make any difference. In terms of fitting you might come up with a more suitable shaft or a clubhead that you 'prefer' but that's about it. Your swing should 'in theory' either be still evolving or not consistent enough to worry about 1 degree.

I will leave them be for now then.

To be honest it was a bit of a joke the whole thing.

Accoriding to the email you got 45mins which included loft and lie check, swing speed on the launch monitor, wedges grooves re-sharpended, swing check with a PGA pro.

I got 10 mins with some lad that worked in the shop that checked the lie of my clubs then suppoesdly re-sharpended the grooves in my wedeges, even though they still had mud in the grooves when i got them back.

Good job it was free.

Only if they were currently 2 or 3 degrees upright. And the re-checks are only worth doing if swing changes or (for forged clubs like these) at start of season imo - if not every 2nd season.

However, any significant difference between 1 club and the others (did they check all irons or just a couple?) would be worth correcting - to same as rest.

Physically it wont make hardly any difference. Mentally - knowing you have the correct lie might do (but I doubt it!) IMO.

The level of service that some of these outfits promise and then dont deliver annoys me however.

I know with my swing that one day I could need 1* one way and the next 1* the other.

I say this because my scores between yesterday and today differ by over 30 shots!

I considered the same thing last year but didn't get it done and have got much more consistent from lessons. I think it would be better to spend the £30 on lessons for now.
