Worst VALUE course you have played?

At the same time Phil the Brab is a great course with some great holes, I suppose it depends on what your into. I like well manicured american style courses apposed to rough round the edges heathland courses.

It has a couple of decent holes but not great - even as a well manicured american style course it's not a great course.

People play it to say they have played the name and a couple holes that have a reputation via telly - if they put more time and money into the PGA that would be the better of the two

What would you do to the PGA to change it? If its overall condition then that has changed since the new owners took over.

Anyway I'm off to play the PGA right this minute so byeeee yallll

I have never played a course that is so loved and disliked. I find the brabazon slightly above average but i have played it over 30 times and its lost some of its appeal. Never get tired of playing it though

For me, The Addington is overpriced (and overrated generally). I know that a lot like the course hence its rating but I am one of those who don't. It does have a couple of very good par 3s but other than that I don't think it's anything special and cannot understand how they can justify £100 a round (other by pointing to their top 100 rating).

I thoroughly enjoyed the hotchkin but would never place it in the top 10. Beau destert is much better imo. Think the fact that the egu is there has something to do with its rating

It certainly splits opinion - I don't dislike it as it is a decent course.

It's not just me then. A few good holes but nothing that stands out over and above a large number of its neighbours.

Would also like to add the Grove to the list.

I like the Grove but having played it a couple of times, I'd be hard pushed to remember specific holes. It's a good course but another that's over priced and aimed for corporate business. In my own opinion, the Brabazon's time has gone. At the time of the Ryder Cup it was a great course, but I think golf has moved on and it'll no longer be testing enough and to a degree still trades of the RC history.

Yep, and to go with the few very good holes, there were a few fairly ordinary ones. Around about the 8th (the par 4 with the valley of scrag about 230 yards from the tee) seemed quite pointless to me. The members I played with raved about it but to me it was a boring hole given that you couldn't take the valley on and the fairway was so wide that it was just a routine mid/long iron + wedge to a largely unprotected green. The postage stamp par 3 a couple of holes later (around the 10th) was nothing more than a flick of a wedge and too short to make the bunkers a big factor without wind coming in to play.

From recent memory, Hanbury Manor seems to be the most overrated and overpriced (on and off the course) that I've played. The Grove is a similar proposition, but maybe they're a both a bit cheaper now? Regardless, I won't be returning any time soon.
Celtic Manor at £318 for two rounds of golf and overnight stay? Hmmm....pretty good value compared to Wentworth West course - one round of golf, an overnight stay and breakfast will cost you around £800 this time of year. "Complimentary" caddy fails to lessen the blow of a ludicrous fee for golf.

I understand that Wentworth does not charge the same base fee to its established corporate customers.

As far as The Belfry is concerned, I have been offered some free games there and declined, so I definitely wouldn't pay money.

The fact it had the RC 4 times is more a sad commentary on the corporatisation and whoring around of the event than it is any measure of the quality of the place. The same is true in varying degrees of The K Club, Celtic Manor and this year's venue. It is also a commentary on the advertising benefit of having the RC and the unending supply of gullible golfers willing to pay the green fee to pay off yellow tees, have their picture taken at the 10th and buy souvenir sweaters in the pro shop.

Would still have to be one hell of a discount to make it anything like value for money.

Indeed, but I guess they concentrate in high value customers who spend loads in the pro shop and who are worth plenty to the companies concerned.

I quite like Wentworth, although not so much the Richard Caring (Wentworth owner)-inspired hideous update of the 18th a la Sawgrass of which he is a big fan.

I really like the East course, quite like the Edinburgh but cannot forgive them for what has been done to the West.

I know I am not the West Course's biggest fan so some might consider my opinion biased but I would have to agree with you.

Like you I have always been fortunate enough to play there on a corporate freebie but, again like you, I have winced whenever I have thought of the cost to my hosts.

A good (but not great) course in great condition but must be the worst VFM in the country.

Agree with everything said - it is in a league of its own for worst value for money

I honestly think that based on golf alone I would struggle to call anything over £60 great value.

Lough Erne is a prime example. £200 with buggies for a 4 ball is great value. £95 for a single green fee is a rip off.
