If Tiger wins the Open he goes to world No.1... If he fails to win will he go above Rory??? Tiger is clearly the better player over the past year yet Rory still sits at No.2, even after flopping at almost every tournament he's played in this year!!!

Strange system!!!

Tiger is the real No.1 and I think deep down we all know it's only a matter of time ;-)

Unless I am wrong I think the rankings are based on two years worth of results so you have to take more into account than the last 6 months.

I think Tiger will get back to no 1 and will win several more majors but he will never dominate the way he used to. The competition is just too strong now.

Also, I think The Open suits Tigers game as it is now. All about positioning and staying out of trouble. He can take the 2 iron off the tee on most holes. Tiger suffers on the longer American courses when he HAS to get the driver out....

I was thinking about this the other day. He has gradually be making ground on westwood over the last few months and will be back into the top 2 pretty soon (might take a little while to reign in donald unless he wins this weekend)

I was thinking about this the other day. Tiger was ranked in the 50's towards the end of 2011 and has jumped up to 4th ( possibly 1st if he wins the open) after winning 3 or 4 events. How has he climbed so high? Is it down he the tournaments he's won being worth more points? (You'll have to excuse my ignorance, still fairly new to the game). It seems when other players have won 2 or 3 events they dont seem to of jumped so many places.

He moves/moved up quicker because the rankings are based on the average over 2 years, so if you play more then you need to be better over that time as its your average that is used. Tiger plays many events less, and because he has been playing better in them his average is quite high ... 3 wins in his average is better than 3 wins in someone else because he plays about 10-15 events less.

Anyway, initial estimates show he will move to #2 after this week, Ernie moves to around #16 ... quite a jump considering he was pushing hard to try and get back into the top 50 to gain Masters entry !

New rankings are out - Tiger is up to no.2. I think that is about right, he is better than westwood, mcilroy... but not donald (donald is very consistent at the moment). Els only up to 15... shows how far back he had slipped.
