Given the results last night, what chances for the home nations (I'd include the Republic in this too). I think the Northern Irish have a half decent shout and seem to be doing well recently if not getting the publicity they deserve.

I'd love to see them the Republic and Scotland join England in South Africa next year. Is it game over if Scotland lose on Wednesday or do you think other results can conspire to help you get second place. Is Trappatoni capable of leading the Republic to another Big Jack style run in the finals and will England flatter to deceive and leave a nation slaughtered gutted and heartbroken again.

Us irish should make the play offs, cant see us winning the group. Question of qualification depends on who we draw in the play offs.

Scotland have a chance but beating the Dutch is not going to be easy. If results go their way they've got a shout. Both Irish teams have a decent shout too.

if England can't muster 3 points from their remaining games (I think that's how many they need to qualify) then they don't deserve to go.
Interesting to see Portugal struggling...

So England have qualified already have they. I thought they needed to win another match?

I really dont know why other teams bother to enter, England have won every trophy, since 1966, or so they should of had according to the press.

I'm taking a leap of faith and assuming not even England can cock it up from here. TBH if you speak to a lot of fans, most have been realistic enough to understand that since 1990 when arguably we could/should have won we have had teams that haven't performed to their maximum and have been found wanting. The press will always hold England up as a team of world beaters as it sells papers and gives them a whipping stick once we get knocked out.

Ignoring the press and media hype and assuming we get there, will any other home nation be there too

Homer, if you English fans actually took an objective look at the qualities of the English team as against Brazil, Spain, Italy, Netherlands and a few others then you wont feel slaughtered, gutted and heartbroken when you dont win the WC as realistically this England team is not that good. The media will tell you differently but they're not. Gerrard, Ferdinand and maybe Rooney are your only great players, rest are good but not great. Saying that I rate Capello and you could do a Greece and upset the odds, never know. Leave the wags at home whatever happens...(except Cheryl Cole ;))....please ;)

The other home nations plus Eire wont go far even if one or two qualify. My team Scotland had an easy group and screwed up qualification, the first half on Saturday was truly abyssmal. Fortunately Faddy put a shine on things for the long suffering fans late on. Us Scots fans are fairly realistic and don't expect anything results wise these days. Argentina 78 lives long in the memory! :(

Was it just me or was that 2nd Gemmillesque yesterday. As it happens that is one of my all time great goals and I love the commentary that goes with it. Shame on the night you couldn't quite hold on to get the result but at least the Scots were there in 78!

It wont be easy to beat the Dutch, but we can do it. If results go our way maybe a draw might even be enough.

don't be defeatist. forget reality - you'll thump them!
