Working from home

I always found that working from home was far more efficient. I found my team to be more efficient and things were proactively chased.
I did actually wonder whether there was a case for ending these open plan offices .. they are on occasion far too social. We had quiet areas but then they would put a break out table near them for telephone conferences.. all a bit daft. Hence being at home in a comfortable environment that is quiet makes you efficient.

As a manager though it was more about social interaction- face to face contact being physically in the room. But I am sure that could be overcome..
Anyway, all of you home workers good luck, nothing wrong with the chat function and a bit of music ?
Ups and downs for me. On the one hand you are distracted less by co-workers wandering up and asking you things that really they could sort out themselves - things they wouldn't bother you with over email or phone, but will give it the old "oh by the way.." in the office. But on the other hand, I find it harder to focus when I'm just sat in my own home I think. I tend to work half an hour longer at the end of the day to make up for this, since I've got no travelling to do so it's no hardship really.

Worked from home for over twenty years now, loved every minute of it.

Means I saw more of my children that I would have if I had worked at office premises.

Wont be for everyone but I think win win win win, no travel time, compared to when I used to do over 2-3 hours of travel a day to get into London.

Spend most of my time WFH, so this is norm at mo. Lots of my colleagues are office-based workers. They are moaning how much harder they work at home than in the office!:censored::LOL:

I've always had work & home distinct and separate; home was the place I came to in order to shut the door on work. Now work is present 24/7 and frankly I absolutely hate it. Never wanted it, never asked for it, now had it imposed on my private place.

Yes, I know it could be worse, I know a lot of people are worse off, I know I could be furloughed or laid off, I get that, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Mentioned this in the Cv19 thread but it applies here as well I suppose. Both me and my co-worker who I share workload with have been working from home for the last few weeks, but today they have furloughed her and not me. So I get to carry on and do the work of two people. But, my boss rang me this morning to give me the news, and also told me not to pick up the slack left by her no longer working, as he wanted to prove a point that he still needs his whole team back in place, so he doesn't mind if a few less important things don't get done. So I'm not to do any additional work. I wonder if I could really impress him by doing even less!

have now got a sitting/standing desk from Costco... small at 120x65 but at £295, it is a good deal.
Also wanted to invest in a good chair - but the like of Miller need a mortgage.... so got one from Argos for £90... absolutely brilliant.

now need to organise some monitors and a swing arm for dual monitors and I am all set. The only problem with the Costco desk is that the edges (at 600mm) are too thick to take a monitor clamp...
