Working from home anyone? Snow day!

Hi all,

Forum seens rather active today, anyone pull the old snow day working from home thing today? I did. Might get some work done if my wife stops bringing me coffee and soup and rolls.

Nope, my meeting in Basildon got cancelled, so I came into work.

Made it in to the office but won't be hanging around too long.
Got to make a detour to pick the Misses up as she won't drive in the snow.

There is snow where I live but very little where I work so cannot even get away early.

Didn't fancy my commute through deepest darkest Surrey and Hampshire today. I wasn't so much worried about not getting there, but not knowing how bad it would get, I didn't fancy being stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Can't get to work due to the roads, even if I could get there we can't work if it's below 3 degrees. Christmas is cancelled

Stuck at home for the 2nd day and it has snowed all day today so I dont fancy my chances getting out tomorrow.

The good news is i have managed to sell 1200 shovels in 2 days.

Up at 05:45. Out of the the house at 06:05. Arrived at work at 07:00 after a delightful walk.
Very bracing I have to say.

Walked home after work then set too clearing the drive. Around 6" of snow on my car roof. It's staying where it is until our road clears at least!

Lucky enough my office is only 1/4 mole from home. Drove on this morning but called it quits at 2:30 and walked home. We've have had about a foot today and it's still pouring down. Figured the car is safer in my office car park than abandoned at the side of the road.

Just got back from walking the dog around our local pitch and put, snow had drifted and is now knee deep.

According to BBC we have this until about 3am tomorrow so should top out at about 15-20 inches then 3 days of -3 due

Our charmer of a manager has instructed us with the following health and safety advise:
If you cannot get your van to the job due to the frozen conditions then get it as close as you can and walk the rest of the way.
What a ***.

It was suppose to be really bad in the Thames Valley and we only had a light dusting so no excuse for not getting in today. Even the trains were running and on time. I can't really work from home as I don't have remote access to our HR system anyway and not really got an project work on that I could do instead. In the current work climate (at the Royal Berks anyway) I think you're going to be expected in regardless unless it becomes obviously dangerous. I think they are at least looking for a meaningful effort to try and get in.

Just out of interest, how common is working from home anyway without snow?

Where I work, its pretty much encouraged, and most people are in the office typically 2 days a week.
I would have thought these days, that where possible it's encouraged, as it reduces the costs of running an office, but perhaps this is not the case?

Worked from home from 1998 to 2006, hated it!

Not possible due to the nature of the work.
They would have to put in secure lines, wireless blocks, safe - not that I'd want to anyway. same 4 walls day-in, day-out - not for me.
