Having worked at The Open from Sunday 15th to Sunday 22nd July I would just like to thank everyone that I met. The organisation that goes into the tourrnament is unbelievable and you dont realise how many people are working behind the scenes.
Plenty of stories to tell, love to hear other peoples experiences.

Special mention to Gordon and Anne at G&A Links for making me feel so welcome, and also to Preston GC members who I marshalled with on the 10th hole.

Had an amazing week and well done to Ernie!!!

Would be interested to hear more about working at The Open.

Richmatt - how many hours a day were you marshalling for? Is it only really viable for local people to work at The Open, given the cost of accommodation etc?

Glad that it was an enjoyable week for you!

I was in the course from 6 in the morning and marshalled until about 930 each day, but i stayed and helped out longer each day. Saturday i was there 6 until 530 in the afternoon on the 10th tee/ 9th green.
Spoke to a lot of players and personalities.
A long week though as i was travelling from Liverpool everyday so up at 4 and back home for 7.
Preston GC were the club marshalling my hole and we always on time and work very well together.
I live in Leeds and applied through G&A Links, would recommend to anyone who wants to watch for the full week as admission is included in the job along with £6.10 an hour.
We dont do it for the money but it paid for any expenses with fuel.

sounds good but why didn't you stay in blackpool.

Thanks for that info Richmatt - very useful. I wasn't expecting it to be a money spinner, but wondered if it is a way of being involved in, and spectating at, The Open without too much of a dent in the bank account!

Anybody else who worked there this year got any tales to share?

My mate was a travelling Marshall, had Martin kaymers group for the first 2 days, then Tom Watson iirc. Not spoke to him properly yet, but got a load of Ralph Lauren gear and got a prov1 from kaymer! He has done it for about 5 years now with the army and loves it, he must do as he missed a mates wedding and his mrs birthday for it!
