Woods hurt in car crash

I hate the press, i wsa reading an article in the Daily mail this morning, where they are saying that Woods has gone off the rails and that in fact it was his wife chasing him down the drive way weilding a driver, and him losing concerntration on where he was going, then she smashes the window in to hurt him. They also say that she scratched his face becuase she thought he was having an affair! Utter Rubbish! Honestly, i think Tiger is a modern day hero for golf and all the media want to do is destroy him. :( . Tiger Woods is a legend and a personal hero of mine, i cannot beleive there is anyhting malisous or suspect in this!

Well, for a start, you really should stop reading The Daily Wail. Did they say that Tiger caused cancer too? That is their obsession.

The story of the wife chasing him has been doing the rounds for a couple of days, and there is certainly some evidence that the official account of what happened is bogus.

Tiger is not a hero. He doesn't rescue children from burning buildings. He hits a golf ball.

please correct this statement - I am part of the 'rest of the world' and I would not prefer the French, even the Clangers would be better.

the most you can reasonably say is 'some other people' as you have no basis for presuming a majority.

you're in danger of sounding like a politician there parmo. :p

How true!!!! The word 'hero' is used far too easily these days, as much as Tiger has done i think i'm right in saying he has yet to save any lives?

Sportsmen have been referred to as sporting heroes for many many years, as have film stars and musicians. Largely to do with how much they inspire people. I'm not for one minute suggesting Tiger is one of my heroes, he truly isn't, but I'm sure he has inspired a lot of people for different reasons, so can quite easily be referred to as a hero by others.

I fully realise that the easily led of little imagination already refer to sportsmen as heroes, but it doesn't make it true. If they worship him, he is an idol, possibly. If he inspires, he is an inspiration or role model. Although that bubble is going to pop shortly too.

I was just referring to the use of the word "hero". I don't think us people of little imagination are easily led, the word has been used in that context for more than my years.

yourdictionary.com relates the word as below:

I can see how many people can fall into categories 3 and 5.
