Women's golf - different rules or just plain weird?

Two examples.

1. On more than one occasion I have stood on the tee box in a comp and a playing partner has moved or made a noise at the top of my backswing. Poor etiquette yes but nonetheless not helpful. I assume ladies like to have no distractions when they are teeing off. Does it slow the game down yes but no more than I do when I'm having a bad day

2. Played with my brothers and they were moaning about the four ladies who teed off in front of us. They are rubbish golfers and proceeded to slice / top their opening tee shots and then have the audacity to blame it on their frustration. No gents it's because, like me you are gash at golf and need at least six holes to warm up.

I have no problem with complaining about specific individuals but as soon as you start to generalise you are moving into prejudice/stereotyping and that is not healthy for the game or society. Robo no problem with your initial post but some of the diatribe that followed has, in my opinion, got no place in the 21st Century

At my club WEDNESDAY is LADIES day,the last time i played on a wednesday 3 women were on the course and i had to ask permission to tee off as it was before noon, and how come every game is a KNOCKOUT COMP or is this an excuse to jump in front of any junior waiting before them,if they want equality let them tee up off the whites and use our stroke index and h/cap system

Why do you feel the need to SHOUT in every reply you make

This is soooo right.

Every section has it's idiots. If it's not the Ladies teeing off 20 yards from anyone else and huddling in a group for warmth on the fairway, it's Seniors "owning" the course and refusing to let anyone through, or it's the Yougsters chatting and shouting and wearing Footy tops and using trolleys. or it's the Cat 1 players taking 3 days to line up a 3 foot putt because it's their last shot-hole, or it's a Captain barging through and being a Jerk, or it's...................

It strikes me that most of the World - not just Golfers - are not happy unless they have something to moan about.
The OP was an observation - I've seen it at my place. But it's an observation. It could easily have been an observation about how Joe Bloggs take 3 minutes to hit 1 shot as he's having a Golfing Experience standing over the ball.:mad:

This place needs a "like" button...or am I spending too much time on fb! Great reply...:)

I'll choose to disdainfully ignore some of the other replies - same old same old bleating about red tees/white tees etc etc.

In general one thing I have always noticed is that us men are far more competitive than the ladies. We are obsessed with winning where as a lot of ladies are more interested in the social side of playing golf. I think this is why you see ladies all walking together down the fairway rather than going straight to their ball. We just want to get there stand over our ball and look proud at hitting the longest drive...

Like people have already mentioned there are dickheads in all the categories at a golf club. I think that the ladies get singled out more as the most mentioned thing is speed of play and that effects everyone on the course. You get men who you really do not want to chat to, seniors who think they own the place and juniors who mess around, but unless you are playing with them, then they do not normally have an effect to others on the course, unlike slow play does.

Ladies do pay full membership like the men at my club and have a large section within the club. They do have ladies day on a Wednesday, but whats the problem it is only one day a week. People work around each other at my club. Tuesday and Thursday you have the mens Roll-up that tees off at 11.30. The pensioners normally tee off at around 8 o'clock in the morning so the ladies normally go out at about 9:30 - 10:30 so that they are not going to hold up the Roll-up.

I would love to see more mixed comps at my club. The ones we do have you put your name down with your partner. I think if there were more mixed double comps where you put your name down and you get drawn out together that would integrate the men and ladies together more. At my club it is normally husband and wife playing together and people within their normal group so people outside of this group never actually gets the chance to help bridge the gap between the mens and ladies section at my club. I would love to play in mixed doubles comps as it would make a nice change.

So you know that Wednesday is ladies day. Why do you bother going up then? Same at my club and I just do not bother wasting my time going up. At my club they do not get the tee until 12 though. it is normally closed from 8:00 until 10:30 so that gives them a guaranteed 30 tees slots every Wednesday. Taking into account that you normally only have around 20 - 30 players on a good day it is more than enough for them and they are happy with that.

Just to expand on a point raised. By law under the equalities laws. Golf subs all have to be brought into line.
This does not just effect the ladies but also seniors. In fact any special rate. A few of the golf clubs in the Manchester area, have done this in their 2012 fees. Not sure as to the date it will effect all clubs. But it has to happen.

I like playing mixed golf. It tends to be far more sociable, less swearing, tantrums and macho posturing about hitting it long off the tee.

If there are mixed comps at your club, play in them. If people on here genuinely think that women play slower and have bad on-course habits, surely playing with them and showing how it should be done (in your opinion) would benefit everyone in the future.

Better than just moaning about it surely... why not try to effect a positive change?

I'm sorry but if you knew the correct way in how to write you would know 1- all days of the week shout start with a capital letter 2- the other words were there to highlight a point as opposed to underlining as for women having a day to themselves that's fine if there is a large group of ladies but what is the point if only 3 turn up and gents have to ask permission to play even thou the course is empty???
