Looking for a bit of help on this one.

We have wifi in the house and it works great with the ipad, our blackberries and our daughters ipod.

The problem we have is with the laptop. Sometimes you switch it on and it is connected to the internet via the wifi network, other times like tonight it just shows no inclination of connecting.

Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this and the best way to reslove it.

Thanks in advance.

If you're on windows 7 just click resolve problem on the wireless network tray icon. Works on my work lappy.

The home lappy usually needs a restart.

Alternatively turn the router off for 60 secs and turn it back on, might help.

Do you have a wireless button on the laptop? Usually above the keyboard with a wireless sign.

It's prob off, easily done.

First you should see if its related to where you are in the house. For example are you in another place in the house when using your laptop to when using your Ipod? Also a quick test, next time your laptop does not work try going closer to the Access point/Router.

Some radio cards are more sensitive than others and can connect at lower RSSI (signal strengths) than others, if your signal is weak it may be on the limit for the laptop. Could try moving closer, increasing output power on the AP or switching channel if interference related. Always select either 1,6 or 11.

If none of the above then other things to try, delete other wlan profiles that you are not using on your laptop, make sure that your laptop hasnt roamed to another wifi network, upgrade your radio card driver, etc.

I find if my wife stands in front of the router it blocks the signal, also if she stands near the radio it blocks the signal, also if she goes up on the roof and sits on the sky dish, that blocks the signal, if she goes anywhere near the vodafone mast down the road the whole of the town looses signal, and you know when blackberry had problems with their email delivery last year, (my wife, honest).
